Anyone else waiting for retail to play? I tried playing a few games but almost all of them end up the same... In the beg game you send a few units at each other that usually die quickly. Then most players build defense & by the time you can even send units to another persons base its pretty useless due to how long it takes units to reach an enemy. So normally most games end up where players just build nukes or orbital & most of the actual fighting is gone at this point. It becomes a rush to nuke/orbital game where all your doing is building things & no real units/strategy & fighting is happening...I think this is partly due to many units missing in the game such as transports, better artillery units, mobile missle units, etc. Anyways, I am going to wait for retail when more units are added, the gameplay is faster & not as laggy as now & there is actually fighting happening constantly in the game. There is potential but a lot needs to be added, fixed, & tweeked

I play right now because while the game is in beta that's probably the best chance you'll have to get problems noticed and fixed in a timely manner. They're spending all their time working on the game and getting it ready for release, whereas after release they're working on expanding the game, not going back and fixing what's already there as their main focus.

Right now while it's 'broken' is the best chance you'll really have to get it working by your input and bug reports. =)

So post! =) Make your concerns known, don't just give up until release. =p Then if release comes and something you don't like or you think is broken made it in then you can only really blame yourself.

no he didn't say "core gameplay vs. bugs" he said "core gameplay AND bugs"

through trying to fix each specific issue you have by posts on the forum you'll have a much better result then just letting other people do it for you

I thought I was the only person who thought the Naval stuff was kinda useless, and didn't see any posts, but I made one and turns out I'm not alone! If you think that orbital/nuke based play is too strong then say so. =) Maybe some people out there agree with you.

slywynsam: I agreed with you on the naval part. However, we do not have all units in front of us to know if orbital is to strong or to weak.

=p Well I was just going off of the point in your post about everyone just rushes orbital/nuke and the fighting ends.

I used to play a lot.

But these past few builds have been too unstable. 4 out of 5 times my opponent crashes and doesn't come back, so I don't bother wasting my time.

I'll play some more when the next build comes out with some stability improvements.

Uber has been quiet lately, so I'm guessing they have a really bad *** update coming up.

Is there any particular place that you can read about potential upcoming builds?

That's actually why I have spend more than a week collecting all the UI information.
I felt that as a veteran RTS gamer, that I am fairly in-tune with what people expect from the interface.
I feel like I have done my due diligence.
So if the things I have brought up are not implemented, I will have a clear conscience.

I love navy in FA but I don't think navy works at all yet units are to big and clumsy but it will get better.

I agree, the game's UI needs a lot of work, especially if they put in as many units as they say they want to. It's very clumsy and doesn't offer up much information at the moment.

From what I've been hearing the Navy stuff is in just to be in. It hasn't been balanced or had all the kinks worked out yet.

Tbh navy should only be an option on planets which are mostly, or all water. Normal planets just don't have the room for it really.

I think it'd be pretty good if there's a large sea, but if there's just, like... a puddle then obviously naval stuff won't do much.

The planet doesn't have to be mostly or all water for naval to have an impact.

I disagree there. I've won matches because I build navy in a lake – especially when my opponent's base is right up next to a lake. It's one of my favorite tactics, to sneak in one or two fabricators and put a naval factory or two in a lake right next to my opponent. Can cause a crap ton of damage, and since Bluebottles out range all land units, they can cause massive amounts of damage – especially early in the match before advanced fabbers are on the field.

This is true. And in Age of Empires/Rise of Nations that was a really good tactic to use if you were playing on a map with a little bit of water - you would use the water to sneak your army across the map. They could defend the chokepoint, but if they forgot to use a navy, they couldn't defend the entire shoreline

Dude, really, this answer is a no-brainer, if you play now you still get pleasure and you can report unbalances, you get extra stuffs, I'm pretty sure retail won't be cheaper. "save on your annihilation" it says, my main point is still you get to play it and when it's released for retail, you'll have a better connection/familiarity towards the game. I don't get why anyone wouldn't buy the beta of any GOOD game that's currently buggy and wait for the retail when it's "fixed". What I'm saying is not only your beta purchase will help the game, the retail will also be richer when it's released because you've had a lot of fun with it and you've went through so much with it.
