Added an atmosphere to the Earth syled planet (basic clouds on a sphere larger than the planet sphere).

wow... amazing... hey do you think you could do a 3d image of a planetiod breaking through it's ring? kinda like simulating a planetiod with rockets that gets set off to destroy a planet leaving it's ring behind : ) but as a dusty trail.
oh and I would do it myself... except I'm an ex infanteer and I know nothing about the software side of things on PC's
Making a planet break its ring is complex, i would need to make the ring lots of tiny individual segments then animate them based on where the planet breaks through the ring, this would be huge strain on a graphics card to do this realtime, unless it was the only thing being rendered or very ugly in quality. But that's just with my current skills, if i were a better artist or animator there may be a more efficient way to do it, im still learning, i have gotten this far in just over a week of self teaching.

I have some very sexy Saturn planet textures on my pc now, I will upload an animation soon with the nicer rings i have made and a proper Saturn texture on the planet. Maybe i'll add some swirling gasses to the planet and dust in the ring too
My first run at making a nice looking "Saturn" ---Edited--- I put a bit more effort into the effects like light positioning, and i made a better swirling gasses diffusion map.
This thread is all sorts of awesome. Rings should be a no brainer. what would be cool is if you could use an orbital unit to "knock" the larger debris in the "dust' cloud so that it breaks its' orbit and comes back home..hopefully on an enemy base
What about rings made of metal scarp remaining from epic battles of past ages ? could even be reclaimable
Agreed!!.. It would be cool to have a miner ship that could extract/mine the metal from rings, "Orbital Extractors!"
