Hi all, I've been playing the game for 8 hours total now. It's a great game I really like it (which is good because I took a gamble paying € 55,- on Steam for it). I don't think though that the game should have been labeled Beta just yet. Beta should just be fixing bugs right? Well a lot of features are still missing and the game seems a bit unstable so I would still consider it (late) Alpha at this stage? Some things that are missing (or from which I don't know they exist): - Can't kick players in the lobby when hosting the game. - Can't tell if one player or both players left the game or not in team mode. Would be nice if it would display a message when someone disconnects. At one point both players left and I was fighting AI without knowing it. - No mini-map available for fast navigation. - No 'home base button' to instantly put the view back on your base. - Huge frame drops on large scale planets when there's lots of vehicles on the map. - Memory usage is ridiculously high, it took 5 GB RAM with 10 players, I have 16 so np for me but most people only have 4. - Can't set gather point for newly created vehicles (or I don't know how?). This is a high priority issue for me. - Can't queue building. E.g. it would be nice to just built 4 power plants in a row and the bot will auto built them all without further commands. Same goes for walls, you need to built walls piece by piece while it would be more easy if you could just draw it and let the bot built all the pieces. - Vehicle navigation is bad. A lot of the times vehicles get stuck. - Overall navigation is kinda rough. Sometimes it's even hard to find your own base. Like if you press , to go to another planet and you press it again to go back it drops your view on a totally different area. Or sometimes the entire planet just turns and my base is upside down and I don't know how to get to the normal view. I also don't like the mouse and arrow navigation a lot it's not very player friendly and takes some time to get used to. That's about it for now, thanks for reading! This game will be great once the final gets released I'm sure
One more thing, it would also be nice if you can start on different planets, right now everybody is starting on the same planet? So nobody migrates to different planets they have no reason to.
First off, its beta bear with it for now - Can't kick players in the lobby when hosting the game. --I'm assuming this is coming, they've been doing regular lobby updates and that sounds like a logical one - Can't tell if one player or both players left the game or not in team mode. Would be nice if it would display a message when someone disconnects. At one point both players left and I was fighting AI without knowing it. --can't comment, also logical though - No mini-map available for fast navigation. --Maver has reversed his anti-minimap position, it should be coming in some way - No 'home base button' to instantly put the view back on your base. --This, and for previous one, you can set camera anchors with shift+number and go to those anchers with alt+number. Very useful, will probably make it into the GUI eventually - Huge frame drops on large scale planets when there's lots of vehicles on the map. --They haven't done performance optimization yet worth a dam so ya. - Memory usage is ridiculously high, it took 5 GB RAM with 10 players, I have 16 so np for me but most people only have 4. --Ha, your lucky, I've gotten 8 GB usage with 2 players. It all depends on number and size of planets. Especially size I find. Again, they haven't done optimization yet. - Can't set gather point for newly created vehicles (or I don't know how?). This is a high priority issue for me. --just select factory and right click on the ground. - Can't queue building. E.g. it would be nice to just built 4 power plants in a row and the bot will auto built them all without further commands. Same goes for walls, you need to built walls piece by piece while it would be more easy if you could just draw it and let the bot built all the pieces. --so far shift-click is all that is supported to my knowledge, though the click and drag method has been requested. - Vehicle navigation is bad. A lot of the times vehicles get stuck. --they add better pathfinding every time pretty much. --try pole lock, it might seem weird at first but keeps orientation constant. You can change this in the settings menu. And as for starting on different planets, that is coming. No idea when but coming.
- No mini-map available for fast navigation. Of course , you have Strat Zoom(and they WILL NOT IMPLEMENT THAT mini-map) -Vehicle navigation is bad. A lot of the times vehicles get stuck. THIS IS (SPARTA) BETA - No 'home base button' to instantly put the view back on your base. Of course you need to spand, and your base is your COM, not the structures that you make Beta should just be fixing bugs right? nope
You're not the only one to ask. We've been talking about this one to death hahaha. Please add your voice to the discussion here: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/idea-minimap.51928/ Right from the boss himself You can also hit "C" to center the camera on your Commander. Select factory. Right Click to move. (as you would a unit). Same way you set a waypoint in SupCom and Starcraft 2. I agree, the current "click, click, click" is very counter to the "macro" many of us want for this game. Lots of us have asked for this already. I am tracking all the GUI suggestions here: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/unofficial-official-gui-discussion-thread.52055/ Please keep making UI suggestions! Added to the requested list!!! [SUGGESTION] Building/Production ~ Structures ~ "Click+Drag" for line of structures (Similar to Supreme Commander) Good timing, @tatsujb just brought this up yesterday! The lack of a true strategic zoom and having a 2D celestial view is to blame. We are currently discussing the same issue over here: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/...feel-has-a-lot-to-draw-from-ozonexs-pa.52806/ Please join us This is called "pole lock". It is standard on a lot of 3D software. It is implemented in PA, but not set to default right now. You have 2 options for this. 1. Hit "N" to reorient the planet pole axis to have north "up" on your screen. This is temporary. 2. Activate "pole lock" in the options menu. Many of us are playing with this set to "on". We've been talking about how to improve it here: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/improve-the-pole-lock-camera.52608/ Agreed, it's not intuitive. The UI is going to be refined in the near future. If you click the link in my sig, you can see the list of what UI features the community has requested. I hope I've helped!!!
I agreed we showld be still on alpha. There are so many things that are miss, others need to improve. The impact may come to ruin many ideas for lack of support and players. Did someone already did the math, on how many players we have and will have!
Do a freaking search before posting. Most of what you bring up has been talked about EXTENSIVELY before posting. And most of what you've talked about is already in the planned features list. You should take a look at that too. Lobby will be overhauled. Knowing who left will be added. There is a home button. If you press... c? I think It's c – it takes you to your commander. However, if you only have one base, you've already lost. Mini map has been talked about EXTENSIVELY. Go find one of those many forum threads. There will be multiple windows in the future. A traditional mini map does not work in PA since we're not fighting on a square and we're fighting on multiple planets. Uber has other plans for helping this out, but they're yet to be released. Of course there's a drop in frame rate on large maps with lots of units. That's how it is with any RTS game. Memory usage and framerate and whatnot will be addressed. There are tons of optimizations for the game to be made. They can't focus too much on optimization until all of the features are added. Waypoints and gather points are in the game. Again. Do a search or some research. Click on a factory, or multiple factories, and right click on a location to set a waypoint – just like other RTS games. Pathing is a known issue. Again. Do a search. Pathing as it is now is nothing compared to how bad it used to be. They're constantly working on improving pathing. Every few updates has an improvement for that. Again, since we're on a sphere, navigation will always be harder than a square as with traditional RTS games. But again, Uber is working on that as has been discussed on the forums. Yes. There will be options to start on different planets in the future. This has been talked about everywhere. There will be tons of features as for starting locations that you haven't even brought up. Orbital needs lots of work before that feature can be implemented though. Sorry if I sound agitated – but it's because I am. Every single thing you talked about has been mentioned on the forums, on reddit, in live casts... all over the place. Next time, do a search before posting.
