    I noticed that the metal planets have ore veins that are the same as the other planets and wanted to know if they would change the look of them in the future (just for metal planets)

    Metal planets have work to be done on them.

    We don't know exactly how, but metal planets will behave differently.

    Uber has talked about how different planets types will behave differently. For example, gas planets won't have a surface to fight on. Everything will be orbital, but there will be lots of resources there, so they're a key strategic resource.

    Metal planets will have changes made to them.

    Uber has also hinted that metal planets will have some sort of "ancient technology to be activated" – though we don't know much about that.

    I thought the Kickstarter info was fairly clear;

    "That’s no moon. It’s a space station! Metal planets are wandering relics of wars long past, giant artificial battle stations that can be recycled or reactivated to bring a new level of destruction. Harness the lost knowledge and brute power of the ancients by repairing their installations. Then take over the control structures and rain destruction on your opponents."

    Between that and all the related comments of giant lasers and other planet destroying weapons we get a basic idea of what's up! ;p
