I hope you will create artillery, witch have the abillity to shoot from one planet to another, with a limited range, and the lack of abillity to shoot while the cannon is pointing away from the planet, it can still give the other players some time to recover, or even to build planetary artillery themselves, and that would lead to a conflict, were the only victor is the player with the greatest firepower. If planetary artillery will be a reality, i hope you will add shields, or else these big cannons could easily wipe out you're entire base, if you lack the ressources to build planetary artillery yourself. I hope this can become a reality, and if not, well, there is so much other awesome stuff in this game!
This has been speculated and we do know some things. The Uber cannon is similar to what you're describing, except it shoots units, not explosive projectiles. However, Uber has talked about planetary invasions and whatnot. Interplanetary units and launchers will have limited range. So if you want to planet hop, you have to wait for the planet to be in range. If you want to use your unit cannon, you have to wait for it to be in range. So that functionality will be in the completed game. Uber just hasn't said anything about an artillery style building that can shoot between planets.
well if you can have a inter-planetary unit-cannon and an interplanetary nuke why not an inter-plarry shell cannon, seems logical to me.
So we are working on a bunch of stuff to make this happen. The first thing is to get it setup so you can change planetary orbits and not just smash planets. Then we will work on getting nukes and other weapons work when planets are close to one another.
This worries me because what happens when I try to bring an Asteroid or Moon into Orbit with Factories and Unit Cannons, it'll just get Nucked right away. I hope we see some changes that make Nucks less binary along with the interplanetary stuff. Mike
And we need ways to travel from planet to planet in a shorter amount of time. I had a... very annoying situation just a few minutes ago. We had one big but mountain rich planet so beta-metal-distribution screwed up many metal spots -> Slow economy. When me and my teammate finally got the eco going and reached advanced, the four enemy teams who spawned at better spots reached space already.. the thing was that the planets were FAR away from the sun so the gravitual slingshot took forever for them while me and my teammate took over most of the planet. My buddy lost connection and couldn't reconnect without crashing. So, I tried to look into the future at that point... I would probably have managed to get the control over the main planet... BUT at that point the enemy might be sloooooowly getting up halleys and sats on the other moons which had like 5-13 metal spots each. There were 5 moons and 2 glichty metal planets (too small, surface mostly not walkable). I would have had to send death lasers, radar sats and orbital fighters to each of those moons..... I disconnected. >.> It would have taken forever. Well, that's more a problem of the map, than of the game, but perhaps this little report can be somewhat helpful.
Actually, moving planets orbit is actually quite smart, if you don't want the planetary artillery to ruin you're economy.
