Actually I think they should be free response. I would gladly read the hilarious bullshit disgruntled people would enter into the text prompts.

EDIT: This sort of thing is expected in beta. The devs have put together this game out of thin air and they're trying to hone in on a finished game

They are not stupid. They are playing the beta with us. They see the issues, and they definitely know the beta doesn't look or play like the trailer led people to believe. It's going to take time, because the **** that happens to code behind the scenes would leave your jaw on the floor.

Bug fixing is an extremely tedious part of code, and it takes a while to identify even the most minor slip-ups. Let's get a product that runs smoothly and intuitively before we complain about a lack of features and graphical displays.

We should replace the word "beta" with "Gandalf"
zweistein000, liquius and mushroomars like this.

"WHY IS THIS FEATURE NOT IMPLENTED?! D8"
    "This is Gandalf"
    Works.

    You typed: "This is Gandalf."

    I read: "THIS. IS. GAAAANDAAAAAAAAAAALF."

But seriously now, can we replace the "Beta" symbol with a "Gamma" and call this the PA Gandalf?

The term "Beta" in recent years have become twisted. People expect a polished a demo version.
    ie. Battlefield 4's beta.
But with a Triple A title like that, they are clearly in their very final stages of polish.
    More like server load testing.

But Beta in actuality should be for testing, finding major bugs and fixing them.

The fact we've got this far to me is a bloody miracle.
One thing you can't doubt is Uber's technical prowess.

Yeah, this problem has skewed the perception of the industry as a whole and its a terrible thing. Technically only a handful of games have done this, but because they have had thousand or even millions of users for testing, everyone and their mum thinks they now know what a beta is.

And to those that ask why this game is different from those.... $15,000,000 more in budget than this game has. The betas of the industry are based for TESTING and FIXING, not for balancing. Pre-alpha dev builds are for building gameplay and mechanics. Alpha is for testing a somewhat playable game while adding secondary features (making the game in a playable state). Beta is for adding non essential features and flushing out the game into a full experience.

There will be much more added to the game in the coming weeks. Listen to uber and keep up with the forums for changes. Please listen. So we don't have another 'This is what a beta is' thread.

    $15 million more in budget?
    You're thinking way too small.

By last estimation, Battlefield 3 spent $100 million in just marketing.
That's not counting engine creation, art assets, AI scripting and coding and server costs.

On the contrary, I think it's the best time to say out loud everything we don't like about PA.

Unlike others games that are more demo than beta, we still have a chance that things may change. It will probably be too late if you wait the release to say it :)

    That is very true too.

Same reason why I'm collecting all the GUI data and suggestions so we can get something phenomenal out of box.
I would hate to see such a next-gen game be hampered by a GUI that can't match SupCom.

They will improve it, but these threads are technically paid for, so it is valid input. Hey, if anything, it gives the devs some things to consider.

AAA games usually spend more on marketing than on the actual game though, so $15 million is probably not too far off the mark, maybe closer to $40 million. They can reuse a lot of the codebase and art assets from the previous games too. They probably made a 4 million polygon model of an AK47 10 years ago, just to scale to whatever hardware they want.

After a year of development an the announcing of PA with that concept video...i started the beta played a bit and iw as amazed how fast they got to the point where they actually getting to the concept video.

I mean seriously...Uber are like Wizards. Programming a entire engine in less then 6 months that is supporting multilayer for units, simulating delta-V for the stellar object and giving you travel between them...Together with a planet generation system. Ehm yes modern wizards :p

Thats when you see experience shining at it is a blast to follow it to the release :p

They know exactly what they want and tailored it right to fit it :)

6 months? What? The Bulk of the work has been going on since the Kickstarter ended just over a year ago. Don't get the wrong idea, the fact they've come from having basically nothing to what they have currently is really crazy all things considered, the fact they're doing all these insane 'never been done before' stuff makes it truly amazing and is a testament to the expertise of everyone at Uber. I still stand by the comment that no one but the guys at Uber could have pulled this off, there is no other team out there that has the same level of experience in regards to this specific genre.

That guys at Uber are wizards.
    Somebody needs to photoshop that.

I like how Chris Taylor has hinted at making a TA 2, he's got the design experience and the pedigree.
He's lost his wizards, but now seated with a dev with lots of money, and he can cut out the publishers.
He's a big ideas guy. I want to see him help start a RTS arms race :p

    Competition is good thing.

While I don't do high level programming, I work with PLC's (Programmable logic controllers) all the time with my job. Mainly for paralleling generators together and let me tell you.. fixing bugs.. is very very tedious... Furthermore creating an entire game like this in the time they have... wow. We have a 16 gen paralleling system that took just under 10 years to code..

Im a little worried as well particularly how we are going to have only one faction. In FAF there are 4 factions. In TA there are 2. Now there will only be one. In almost every rts there is at least 2 factions. I understand the pressure to release a game fast but only one faction is going to make people know that the game was rushed.

Also I agree that the projectiles all look very similar and I hope it is true that they do intend to work on making things look cooler. More lasers, sounds, explosions, projectiles and effects.

I also am not sure why not have inter planetary battles. I mean there needs to be something that can intercept an incoming space transport in space.
