Hey, fairly new to PA. I downloaded it just this week. I just updated to the new beta 54757 last night and ever since i have not been able to play the game for more than 10 minutes. I tried creating my own system with 5 planets and it would never load. I eventually got it to load with just 3, but it would take for ever to load and would generally have started by the time the graphics showed up. I then can play the game for only a few minutes before the game locks up and then crashes with a "connection to server lost" or sometimes the "PA.exe has stopped working." I dont know what the issue is and have searched through a lot of the forums to find a similar issue, but failed to find one like mine. Again I am new to the Beta and the game and feel stuck. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
I am using Steam, Have an AMD graphics card and from what I have checked all drivers are up to date...

First you can try to use "Latest Beta Driver" from AMD:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeonaiw-vista64.aspx
It's previously reported many times as something what can help with crashes.

Also you can try to disable "Steam Overlay" in Steam game properties and then check if it's improve stability. I don't sure it is, but it's created some problems for Nvidia users before, so you can try.

I checked, I have the driver downloaded and disabled the steam overlay. Still when i start the game, it will take a while to actually start the game, but then just show a black screen with some of the UI in place. Only thing I am left to do is just leave the game. So still no luck...

There is one more thing you can check:
You have non standard DPI and in before this caused issues with user input. Non-standard DPI it's not usual on Windows 7, so let's check if this might cause issues.

    Check this article:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...ler#make-screen-text-larger-smaller=windows-7
And then set your DPI to 100%.

Also you not first person with black screen on Windows, I'll try to check other issues and try to find out why this might happen.

Well I changed my DPI to 100% and it loaded fine, I was able to keep a game going for about 20-30 minutes, it glitched every now and then. Then all of a sudden the screen went white and I got the windows spinning wheel, then it crashed again....

    Well its getting better

Looking over your computer specs, pretty close to mine, Im using an 4800 card, so a bit weaker, and also 4 GB Ram

You need to make your systems smaller..... 4GB is barebones min to run the game...I have seen late game well over 3gb, and people who play 6 player maps with 4 or 5 planets have seen it get above 7gb of ram use, just from PA

for now, you should try and play no more than 2 planets in a system, and no more than 4 total players

I can run 1v1 with ease, and only get laggy in 4 player matches later in the games, but never 3+ planets.....each body in the system really increases the workload on your PC

As soon as you can, buy some RAM off Newegg, you can get some nice high end 8GB of RAM for around $75.....that is my plan.....soon I hope

You probably need to check this k4trix issue: FS#2264
He have mostly same video card with (he have desktop 48XX and you have mobile version), same OS, same drivers, probably same crash.

Bad news, I tried the game again after my post and got the same black screen. So I will be testing it to see.
Also Fergie I have planned on buying some RAM for my computer, I was looking at newegg earlier today. I toggled over to see how much ram was being used while playing the game, and it was maxed... Also as for the planets, I only was using 2 planets and one small moon. Maybe they can get it worked out soon.

If you only used 2 middle/small planets and out of RAM it's most likely memory leak. So more RAM it's useful for game in general, but it's not reason of exactly this problem.

Yeah, I tried the game again with 2 planets and with DPI back at 125% and the game worked fine, with only a few minor glitches, again though memory was fully used. I guess for now I will be stuck only using 2 planets.
