I think it would be helpful if scout units had a command where the spiral outward from their current location. This would naturally explore the areas closest to your base first and ultimate cover the whole sphere. At present I find that effective scouting is really micro intensive at a time when you also need to be focusing on building your base.

no? They should fix the current problem with scouting rather than implement a band-aid like this. Easiest solution would be to show the opponents possible spawning locations to the player, so that at least you know where he could be.

What is "the current problem with scouting" ??

I think I actually concur with the OP. I'd rather not have someone know where I might have started without them even having to look, especially when there is only 1 possible spawn location. What's the point in scouting early in the game if you know where your opponent is going to be? Seems like not knowing possible start locs adds another dimension of strategy to the early game. Focus on building scouts, military units, or engineers?

The OP's suggestion reduces the micro required, which I think is a good thing in a game where your focus if often divided between many different things.

Exactly my question. I fully agree with the OP. Autoexplore would be awesome.

I think the scouting problem could be fixed by having the FoW become darker and darker the longer you don't explore it. Not to the point where terrain features would becomes entirely black (ROBOTS DO NOT FORGET), but to the point where you could tell you hadn't scouted an area in a long time.

Spiralling out is pretty inefficient for scouting, so this option would be a crutch. It's best to head straight for the biggest concentrations of mass that you don't remember being one of your starting options, because it's pretty obvious that the other guy's going to want to spawn next to as much mass as possible.

EDIT: And if he's not spawned next to a big chunk of mass, then you have more time to scout him before you're attacked because his eco will be worse.

I actually like the current scouting situation. It means you actually have to scout to know where your opponent is. Being forced to hedge your bets until you locate your enemy is strategically more interesting than immediately sending your first group of raiders straight to where you know he's going to expand, which is what you got with TA and SupCom with known spawn locations.
