Such an Icon like you have in SupCom to fast-select your Commander you know. To find the most valuebable Unit in no time
Hit the letter "c" to select the commander. Hit the letter "c" again to go to the commander. Also, the strategic icon is pretty easily identifiable to me, though I imagine it could possibly be improved.
Like caricifus said, the letter 'c' on your keyboard is a hotkey for your commander, and just like any group you can double press it to quickly center on him. Apparently one of the planned UI additions is to show you your idle engineers (with counts) in the sidebar somewhere, so I'm sure the commander will also go there.
Or C then T. T is a very helpful key and has been since TA. It makes the camera track whatever unit you have selected.
Oh that is quite nice, I was unaware of that command F is useful for selecting idle fabbers and Shift+F2 for selecting idle factories as well
I always use keyboard shortcuts. but a few icons in the corner would be welcome for those who prefer them. One for the Commander, maybe with a health bar included and one for idle fabbers, showing how many are idle as well. Supreme Commander had this I think. But since the UI is expected to be extensively updated during the beta, I think Uber already has this covered, just didn't release it yet.

The problem with the "C" key is that it doesn't work very well in team games, where "C" select every commander rather than just your own.
