When starting a game to choose a spawn location, I get a black screen with eco status and player names. It happens on almost every game either made or entered. I've uploaded a DxDiag and a picture of what happens.
It's caused by outdated drivers: Code: Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 Driver Date/Size: 12/14/2012 05:42:34, 12615680 bytes Download and install "Win64_152818.exe" from here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23102
I'm getting a similar situation as well, but only for systems with 'large' numbers of planets/planetoids (Seems to be maximum 3 for me atm). DxDiag output attached, any help would be appreciated.
Post your DXDIAG and things will be clearer .... it will tell us what specs your PC has, wether your GFX drivers are out of date ect ...
You have pretty old video card: GeForce 9800 GT and problems you might get are totally normal because it's way to slow. Also what FPS (press Ctrl+P) you have in game with this card? Is it playable? Just curious.
Not certain what the frame rate is normally (15-25 in combat times, up to 50 at game start) but I've found it fully playable on 'medium' graphics settings and this is the first time I've found something just not working. Tbh, I can understand something running really slowly or other similar results, but I can't understand complete failure to render unless there's some new feature to some out that I'm completely missing due to age of card (Or that there's some issue with running out of graphics ram for the rendering process). Also, please note that saying 'way too slow' just because a card is ~2-4 years old feels a bit insulting to those of us who have those cards and have not experienced problems that would obviously stem from them, different phrasing would be appreciated. On a completely different note, would you happen to know where one would find software to monitor the load on a graphics card?
I'm always say what I'm thinking, sad it's will upset some people but it's my problem. Back in time when GT 9800 was released I had 8800 GTS and even then this card wasn't high-end and was slower than mine 8800. Today it's 5 years old, so I'm totally sure it's okay to say this card old and slow. I'm really happy that you get playable performance and any number will be really interesting to see. As long as I know you can view memory usage and temperature somewhere in Nvidia Control panel and also you can use GPU-Z for this. No idea about anything else.
Got the numbers, was only a game against 3 AI so it didn't get particularly epic. And having actually checked I'm now fairly certain it's gonna tank a bit when we host the server as well. I do have to admit it's interesting to see what for some games I'd consider unplayable not even being noticeable.
I also encountered 2 black screens so far, one also directly when the game was supposed to start and once when I went back from the in-game menu to the game, the second time it actually solved itself after a few seconds. For some strange reason though I never am allowed to choose my starting position, but as the starting always takes several minutes I'm wondering if I somehow miss a timer and the game already starts in the background.
You don't get a chance to pick your start location because while waiting for you to load up the game, the selection timer times out and the game picks for you. Happens to me a lot. Can the start location timeout value be increased for the Beta maybe? Just a request, until some bugs are worked out, or until things get optimized a bit.
