I've touched on this briefly before but I might be able to better explain myself here though. I have an issue with the Lava Planets and it might just be my personal preferences as well but when it comes to the edges of the terrain and lava, it just simply looks damn odd to me. When I think of Lava I dont think of it being the same as some sandy beach off shore somewhere, I think of it as burning and melting rock. In the current iteration of the Lava Planets, it just feels like where all the lava connects to the terrain its like Uber have designed it to be along the lines of beaches instead of being lava and lava pits. I'll show you want I mean. This is the current iteration of lava. Now look at the concept art. See how the terrain is raised here? It looks SO much better then whats in the game currently, it feels like they are wanting to make it easierly accessible or something, the concept pic had it just about spot in, even in the background you can still access the lava pockets if you really wanted to. Just go to the Cliffs Of Dova and you'll see what I mean, its just not realistic enough to have all the terrain on the same height level as lava, there you can clearly see "holy crap thats Lava! stay AWAY from lava"... in the game its like hey IM LAVA come on in!! Even love the texture on the concept art where you got all the little fragmented terrain broken up which gives you that holy s* feeling is this thing gonna fall into the lava? This is beta, and I already got the feeling somewhere else where i sort of mentioned this that this was definitely not going to change, and that lava will do damage and what not later down the pipe line, I just think it looks horrible right now and poorly implemented compared to all the other planets right now maybe its just me I don't know. Whats in game right now in my opinion should absolutely not be looking what it does right now, and all the tall biomes are no where near the lava as well which makes it look worse. Please Uber rethink the way the terrain connects with the lava, it shouldn't be so flat you can go swimming in it and have it look like a beach.
Understand... just so long you kind of understand what I'm getitng at, and maybe its a limitation with the engine itself I dunno... but thanks for the responce bgolus.
Sure enough, but is there any chance features like cliffs and drop offs into bodies of water will make its way into other biomes? I think building a base behind or ontop a cliff overlooking water is a good counter to naval.
