So during this game today I was using some t1 air fabbers to make some anti-air towers. But then the other team came in with around 10 levelers and destroyed all of my towers and forces. However, the levelers didn't target my air fabbers so I was able to simply fly over the levelers and reclaim them with my fabbers. This is way better than using bombers because I found that the fabbers could kill the levelers faster than the bombers since they can hover over their target instead of flying over them. I was able to reclaim his entire force rather quickly with minimal losses. Doing it a couple more times, I was able to push back waves and waves of levelers. I eventually decided that it was wrong and I stopped. I'm not sure if this should be left in since it allows a handful of t1 air fabbers to absolutely rip through levelers. Perhaps an easy fix would be to make the fabbers reclaim slower on levelers. What do you guys think?
If someone invests in Levelers and has no AA or fighters then its their fault if they die... and gunships will most likely come out sometime and thus the same effect will occur...
True but gunships, to my understanding, will probably fly in small circles around their targets; making them susceptible to more AA. While the Fabricator can just hover directly over. Also fabricators are probably going to be cheaper than gunships anyways.
Gunships are also historically more capable in terms of taking damage and dealing it out. In a way they could in theory expose themselves to LESS AA because they tend to be localized to specific areas, where as bombers need to pass over teh target before they can start to turn around, which they do in a large arc. True the Gunships might be 'exposed' longer but they are only exposed to a portion of AA at any given time. Of course, it can greatly depend on how the gunships are implemented in the end. Mike
Actually in the real world Gunships are super vulnerable to AA rockets and flack because they are large and very slow. That's why Gunships would be useless in any modern day war. However, they are very useful when it comes to attacking places like in the middle east where it is very hard to move artillery and heavy guns around. That's why America developed its gunship in the first place.
That's the real world, it doesn't apply 1:1 in a game, just look at other gunships from this Sub genre of games. Mike
As quickly as air fabbers die to AA, I'd say that's entirely your opponent's fault for relying solely on leveler armies. He could have brought anti-air units, or even his own fighters and annihilated your fabbers almost effortlessly. I say almost because maybe you had 200+ T2 air fabbers... That might take a minute or so for a couple of fighters to get rid of. Though, if you have that many fabbers, I'd highly recommend reclaiming your opponent's commander. It'd take about 10 seconds.
The devs are toying with the idea that tanks and other none AA units should not be able to target air for this build. I have mixed feelings about it.
Oh I assumed when you used the word "Historically" that you were referring to the real world, as in history. But, I see now you meant like in Supcom and TA. Also I agree with you know that it's not really an exploit, I wrote this article at like 1 in the morning :/, but I do think that It's a little imbalanced. It does take away from the value of a leveler and more importantly it takes the value away from other air units like the Bomber.
