So I backed when it came to alpha on steam, been playing when I can against the A.I. I still need some practice as I haven't had much time to play, but it seems that the A.I. does not work anymore. I publish a game, ready up and just wait, I have waited up until 5 minutes with no progress, most of the time people join on me so I have to quit out and create a new one... Is this a bug or have they removed the ability to play on your own now? Thanks.
What do you mean? AI is on. The first build, we had a known performance bug, the build yesterday, AI should be playable. They still can get stuck on occasion - we had enough major changes lately that it creates occasional problems where the AI can't do anything, but more often than not, they can still put up a pretty good fight on the air layer. Land and naval, and then orbital, will be coming fairly soon.
No no, When I got into a game yesterday, the A.I. were fine to play with. Its just I cant get into a game at all now... I wait in the lobby after readying up, and the game doesn't fill up the slots with A.I. anymore, it just waits for people to join on me.. Is this normal?
Just click ready and wait about a minute. It's weird behaviour that caught me out less than an hour ago.
Just start a game as normal, then as soon as you pick your spot hit ready! The game will autofill empty spots with AI as the games being created, mine does. Works on UBER servers and in custom games
Since when? I thought when you create a game, it publishes it onto the uber servers? Its allways worked before beta. And maxpowerz, Im not getting into the game at all. I wait as long as I can, then someone joins me, I quit and try again...
When the game does get past this point (happened i think once since beta) It takes about 10-15 minutes to load the game, and then I don't get to pick a spot, it already has my commander landed. Im not having a rant, I love the game, and the new changes (apart from the ones ive listed here.)
Interesting, I don't get AI if I'm not on an UBER server. I figured it was WaI, maybe it's actually a bug.
Maybe their servers are overloaded? In which case it would be wise to wait until less people are playing for me to play against A.I.? Just speculating, would be nice to know for sure.
Servers got a little smacked yesterday, and load times are taking a while currently. We're actively working on profiling our memory usage currently, and the speed with which games load will likely be directly impacted by that. You'll see more patches in the coming days that should start to speed up join time, etc. The reason you're landing immediately is because it's taking so long to connect for you, that you hit the "auto placement" time out.
Okay, many thanks for the reply. Is there something wrong with my PC that its taking so long or is it 100% your servers? Is this the reason for why the slots arent getting filled up with A.I. too? Thanks.
A little of both, possibly, without knowing your computer. But mostly, it's taking games a lot longer to setup on the server component at the moment. The bigger the planets, the more planets you have, the longer it will take, as it blows out the memory footprint. Play on a couple, smaller planets (1000 meter or smaller) rather than huge ones. We still play most of our 10 person free for alls on a 1000 planet with one 450 moon and 2 150 meter asteroids in the office.
Okay cool, I will keep the planets down to a minimum, i was typically trying to load about 7 medium planets. If it helps, Here is my Dxdiag and MSinfo32 files, incase my PC is contributing to the time waiting.
+1 to this! After experimenting last night a few smaller planets work fine on my system with 4gb ram- but most players were hosting games on 16 planet systems which I just couldn't join. I gather from your posts that ram usage on larger systems should come down in the future as well?
I'm not sure whether this is the right place to mention this, but the AI isn't working for me. Every time I try to play a match versus an AI, everything works, but the game freezes after a certain amount of time with a 'simulation ended' message. Is this something known or am I the only one having this problem?
I get this too, at first I thought it was just instabilities with the Beta build, but this rarely happens when playing against players. Kinda unfortunate, as I 'wasted' a good couple hours yesterday trying to smash a planet into the AI's before they crashed. Thank god I'm home sick so I can afford those amounts of time. AI works, just don't expect to play a full game (currently). I'd still advise the Beta-noobies to play some games against AI to get a feel for building and managing eco.
I just tested the halleys and nukes again, Im not getting the explosion effects, or the helley effect, even the nuke doesnt explode, just turns things into wreckage. Am I the only one? Also, ive noticed on the ctrl + p menu, my gpu is using 5gb out of 3 gb weird!
