I shut off switchable graphics and did what that video did. I am going to give it a little bit before I tell you if it works. Do you know of any ways to make amd drivers actually work?

Ok first problem right off the bat. I am getting the whole PA.exe not responding on launch thing. I would update my drivers but I cant, hence this thread. I had to switch that stuff off because it was making it worse. I might try and install the beta drivers again from Leshcat. A question about those thought(and graphics drivers in general)If I get a BSOD during a graphics driver install about 1/2 through has the driver installed regardless or is it still not installed?

You can check it in DxDiag.txt just by checking "Driver Date/Size".

I'm never recommend anything like that to other players, but your link to github in profile said you're not only gamer. If you can't fix your issue with drivers you can play PA on Linux. Probably you'll met some other problems, but they all are fixable while your current problem is probably not.

I was hoping to save the Linux option for the very last resort. I am trying Leshcat's driver for 13.6 hoping that will fix some of my issues. Currently trying to find the right pointer for my display brightness so I can get that all sorted.

Also I'm need to ask what exactly switchable graphics options you have in BIOS? Can you disable Intel HD? Or can you disable discrete AMD card?

I actually asked you about BIOS because it's interesting how it's all will works if you disable AMD card completely and then check how backlight work then.

There are exactly 2 options. You can go and select "Switchable Graphics" and the two options are "Enable" and "Disable". If you disable it then when you switch power sources it will ask you if you want to switch from AMD or Intel graphics.

As for the disabling the card to fix the brightness I am downloading the drivers right now so I will let you know.

Other question. When you created this topic (before you change BIOS settings) was switchable graphics enabled or disabled?

I asking this because when switchable graphics enabled all display control *as I think* should be done by Intel card, and only some applications should be started on AMD card. Obviously if you move everything on Intel card (e.g disable switchable and then choose Intel) game will work here, but you lose performance then.

PS: Don't forget to install latest drivers for Intel HD 3000:

Also if you have possibility to do that I'm can recommend you try clean Windows reinstallation.
You can also try to install trial Windows 8, it's might handle backlight by some other way.

Clean reinstallation might be helpful because for sure backlight control have nothing to do with graphics cards driver. It's should be done by ACPI and operation system, but HP might break it with their crap.

Ok so I got my drivers updated to 13.6 by using Lushcats Drivers for 13.6. His 13.8 drivers seemed to be a little problematic so I decided to use 13.6. I successfully updated to 13.6 but the brightness on my laptop screen was at 0% which was beyond annoying. I decided to try and update my Intel drivers which I thought wouldnt work because they were already updating but I guess by installing it a second time it was able to find the correct pointers to control my display. So all is well in terms of my graphics drivers. I am assuming all will be better with PA but I have not tried yet.
I will be re-doing my system at some point because it is pretty screwed up.
