Sorry if this thread was already posted but I just started playing today so forgive my ignorance. I just finished playing my first game and I came originally from SC2 where I have very heavily customized hotkeys. So my initial impression of the game when I first opened it was what are the hotkeys. So there were ones I know like ctrl+num then num to recall it which is fine but there aren't really many other regular style hotkeys set and they aren't obvious either even looking at the UI. So for instance in SC2 they put the character in with the icon so you can figure them out too which is handy. So when I found that there aren't any set hotkeys for things I immediately quit and went to the options to try get some sort of system going and its not convenient at all so going back to SC2. They have quite a good UI for hotkeying things so you can set each unit or building individually and its done with the unit's icons then you can set a primary or secondary hotkey if you wish. Having a flat list with 100 hotkeys is just really overwhelming to go find something in. Plus there doesn't seem to be any major ordering of them either other than alphabetical. Like if it was split between land, air, sea, commander, gameplay, buildings, it would even be slightly better but it really needs a bit of a UI overhaul I think.
I surely agree with you but ... (prepares for the super general always working argument...) Yes, like most (all) UI it needs that. That's why it is called alpha.
Ah yeah I understand that im just saying what is my biggest concern currently. Actually the in game UI I found to be quite nice. Maybe if they did a sort of grid layout it would work a little bit better in the meantime.
Isn't the UI system built to be modded in javascript? I wouldn't supposed it would be too hard to, for instance, put the hotkey for "metal extractor" next to the picture of the metal extractor. in a mod.
