So, my first experiences in this game. Hope you don't mind another thread on the forum Played with a friend to check all the units and buildings etc. #I know it is an alpha, and everything is subject to change. And that my feedback may already be in the making. However I will give my feedback on the current systems. ##I have played quite a lot of SC:FA, and will bring some of the things in there, in this thread since some systems there were better(Versus the current state of the alpha) Combat: Looks good, feels quite good as well. Though some buildings might be slightly OP(T2 arty(Too much range(And possibly damage)), T2 catapult(Too much range & damage), Nuke(Too much explosion radius) UI: It's in a quite good state overal, but some things should be implemented: Being able to stop buildings that are in the planning by shift+right click for example, instead of making the unit stop all his other buildings in the queue. Seeing lines+marker where units are going to/rally pointed(Instead of just a marker) Seeing idle engineers/commander, and being able to distinquish those between T1 and T2 engineers if implemented. Seeing the metal/energy costs per second and total on the tooltip of a building/unit(When in the factory UI) Seeing the health of units/buildings in tooltips. Gameplay: Being able to build over wreckage would be good to have. Whether it reclaims whatever is under it, or builds on top of the old factory I wouldn't care either way. But it would be good to not having to reclaim whatever is on that spot. Sounds: The sounds aren't bad, and need some getting used to for sure(What they mean etc.) However, I wouldn't mind a sound when someone attacks my commander or launches a nuke. Some suggestions related to the commander & engineers: Commander gets more HP(So a single nuke won't kill you for 90%) T2 commander upgrade, since it is quite annoying to lose his use after some time. T2 engineers being able to build T1 stuff, since right now you have to include a T1 engi and that is not helping with the micro. I also got an UI error somehow, and after the error I was unable to do anything at all besides zoom in/out and even Escape didn't react anymore and had to quit using Alt+F4. I may have forgotten some things, but this is it for now! Hope my feedback is of any use Edit: I thought of something else It would be great if you were able to upgrade T1 metal extractors to T2, so you don't have to reclaim a T1 to build a T2 metal extractor. And metal...My god is that in abundance Edit 2: Changed unit to buildings in Combat feedback. And the pathfinding/reaction of engineers/commander is not always top notch. The engineers also don't assist nukes/anti nukes(not sure about factories) without standing within a certain radius of it. Instead of moving into radius they just stand still and do nothing. Edit 3: And although my laptop(yeah yeah I know) isn't the best, FPS is fine on levels without much shadow, but on maps like earth size 3, the shadows become a major problem. And I had to disable them completely to get an...acceptable FPS.
first of all, i want to say that this game looks and feels great alreaddy. there are some points that could be a problem with the balance of the game, for example: the commander T2 upgrade, does the HP upgrade? how much does the build rate increase? would there be a gun damage increase? etc. etc. etc. that the arty units and building might be a bit OP is, i guess, commonly known by now. this does pose a serious dilema into the gameplay: do i go for a unit rush or will i try to get that T2 arty station to counter my opponent? shields would be a option, altough as stated before, traditional shields won't be added for reasons i understand. UI: i can only accept to these suggestions, with alot of units(groups) it might be wise to create a group line though. being able to see the health pool instead of just a green bar would only be really needed if one can see the damage a unit does. the UI error i don't understand, normally the UI wouldn't even be able to crash p.s i'm the friend funky talked about at the top HAVE FUN !
Before people start to yell at you that its alpha I want to take the chance to welcome you. There are sounds for that, the nuke sound is actually pretty neat. The issue with sounds at the moment is that unless you're zoomed all the way in at units you won't hear them at all. No upgrades, I'm afraid. The commander being a liability later on is intended I'd say. T2 not being able to build T1 is intended too as it keeps T1 engineers from totally being replaced by T2. You will eventually be able to build the t2 mex over the t1 without having to replace it, upgrading it isn't seen as a good solution as it diminishes engi importance. And yes, metal is really too plentiful at the moment. I'd blame the trees. All of those thousands of them will make a shadow and hurt even high end systems. But that's 'cause there hasn't been any optimisation at all in regards to fps. Expect much higher performance in late beta.

yea and will do it often, back on topic, the sounds isn't a bug adio is positional and this is revolutionary there's even an adaptation of the sound to the 3D environement and how it reverberates off it (or I was just being bluffed by how real it sounds). please let them make this like they are currently doing.

Reconnecting to games is fairly reliable now. If it crashes, the best fix at present I believe is to close your game and restart it. Not sure on a cause, though.
When you restart you have only a single attempt to rejoin the game, but if the connection fails again you can not attempt to connect a second time.
no you do not have a sigle attempt. It's unlimited to my knowledge, I've reconnected to the same game over 12 times. this saved me a whole lot of time and effort on my icon pack and megapack. There is a limit on time though and also that playing with a real person rather just AI's is different. I have rejoined a game where I'd left when playing with someone and i rejoined after he was gone, I could keep playing alone ^^
Let me up that. 1) No Com upgrade is definitive? Due to my love of FA it's a sad news for me. I loved to do alternative (also known as stupid) strategies using an upgraded Com. If you have played FA and crossed drunkenman dancing (one of my account), you know what I mean. 2) Related to 1, does air transport of troups/Com planned? You can't upgrade your commander, but multiple commander types with different abilities are planned, so you will have a little diversity there. Yes, most likely.
Commander "upgrades" will be handled through the units and abilities at his disposal. An interplanetary rocket lets him move across worlds. Super weapons demand energy and infrastructure to function. Stuff like that.
this is probably a good point to have a dev speak out to us and finally clench our thirst for knowledge on the matter of commander types and their "options" (I think it was thay wanted to call it). of course we have the thread in which it was adressed by garat (but i lost it) but now we need more definititves.
