correct ... fact is though it´s still a gamble for both backers and devs ... not just moneywise ... that was my point
how is it as much of a gamble to kickstart for the devs as it is to pay out of pocket in hopes they'll make their money back? Kickstarting allows the devs to see if there's enough interest, too. It's safer in every way for them.
even with succesful KS the devs could potentionaly harm themselfes if they fail to deliver or fail making the game entirely in that case they wouldn´t only harm themselves because of the money given to them which they may have waste in that case but also of the resulting distrust from the backersside ... and imo that distrust is even more harmful ...
of course not ... i didn´t even talk towards kickstarter itself but the devs and backers that want to use the platform was i somewhere unclear??
now, it seems like you're saying it's simply bad if devs fail to deliver in general. respectively, duh.
sure, on one hand they may lose time, money and work to a project that didn´t work properly, was unfinished or didn´t make any propper revenue if they go the normal way ... on the other they may additionaly lose the trust of the backerbase and eventualy worse the trust of the audience they worked torwards to when using kickstarter ... and if they don´t have a finacial cushion or succesful projects that make up for that ... then this is indeed bad ...
