DO AS I SAY OR I STEAL YOUR MOON BASES.

Many people had the same problem as me from Steam, a blank page as your shortcut/launch button. I don't think this is very appealing icon for such a great game already, so here's what you do.

    1. Download the .ico from http://www.filedropper.com/pa
    2. Place the .ico file on either your desktop, or somewhere else you can find it easily.
    3. Right click on your Planetary Annihilation shortcut (If you don't have one)
    4. Click on "Properties"
    5. Now click on "Change Icon", the click on "Browse"
    6. Go to your selected directory through the browsing window and open the .ico you downloaded.
    7. Set, Apply, Close.
    8. Enjoy!

If you have any minor concerns or problems, just PM me.

that's only on steam version and is of no importance in alpha.

With uber version you would have had an icon, next time give more money to the devs.

I made my own one for you guys, it's not great and credit goes to the unknown author of the google image.

I be;ieve what tatsjb means is that if you buy the game through the uber store (which gives more money to the devs [although they aren't really meant to say it]) you don't have the glitchy problem witht he icon

I donated like $70 and bought it via Ubernet, I redeemed my code onto steam so I don't think they lost any money to be correct, just Steam you know?
Most of my games on there don't have icons anyway, I just cleared my desktop up yesterday so I wanted everything to look formal, now I have only a few icons. :3
    This is my current desktop;

nope steam gets a cut, so uber doesn't get the full 90$. THAT is what I meant

In any case the important part of my post was the first sentence : is of no importance in aplha.

oh and make sure you're executing the launcher. otherwise you won't have the updates and the game won't work.

yeah man srry about that one, i didnt realize what i had said untill after i had already posted it, but at the same time, there are people like me out there who dont have credit cards or a paypal to buy things online, there are so many games i wish to support but cant. anyways all i was trying to state was that the way you stated that sounded rude.

So Steam is the only one to give me updates, I don't have a launcher unfortunately, unless I can download it. But I was allowed either an Uber Key or Steam Key, Being a common steamie I chose Steam. Gahtdammet

Honestly, who gives a ****? He bought the game because he was interested. The rest should be irreverent to you.

I might just rename the whole of this topic on how to get an icon for PA, and move all my discovery into the mains.

If you browse to pa.exe, you can use the icon from it.
EDIT: to clarify, since it's 4 in the morning and I should be asleep.......... The pa.exe file in steamapps\common\[whateverfolderplanetaryannihilationisin] has an icon or should and works the same as the ico file. The ico steam uses is never from the executable for a game (and I have no idea why) but is downloaded to a separate folder. If steam doesn't or can't can't download it, you end up with a blank steam shortcut. I've had to change a few myself.

Yeah, I think I'll edit the title again for people who are having struggles finding it. I looked in all of my PA folders in Steam and it wasn't there, probably a download bug for some. Thanks for your advice though. I hope people who don't wanna waste time see your comment.

Except that it's not. Open up your steam install folder, search for "pa.exe". When the results come up (there should be 3), right click on them and select "open file location". See the folders listed in the adress bar? That's where they are. The one NOT in the "bin_x..." folders is the main one, but I believe they all contain the same icon. Just open the properties of the shortcut, select change icon, browse, etc like in your first post, but browse to and open pa.exe. You'll be able to select the same icon as the exe shows.

If you wanna see all the icons steam has downloaded for shortcuts, etc, go to your steam install folder and go to \steam\games. Since my steam install folder is C:\Steam, full path is C:\Steam\steam\games

Through UBER was actually 10 euro cheaper for me ;o
And I also lacked an icon, but was able to get the icon by simply going in
steamapss>common>PA>make shortcut to desktop. I then had a pwetty icon :)

PA is also not the only steam game to have this issue, i have had to do the same for about 5 now. Steam also doesn't remove the shortcuts after you deinstall a game which is kinda annoying...

Hey mikey. Yeah. That's where pa.exe will be. Click "change icon", click "browse", go to that directory in the pop-up file browser, double click pa.exe, select icon, click "ok", win. I might just post up some pics of the process using the raeven's ui mod manager as an example. It won't be the steam version, so you may have to look in another directory, and they won't pop up, cus it'll be on your computer screen not in a book, but ya.

I really find it hard to believe that in 10 years of computering THIS hasn't come up before, or that your finding it so hard using the icons in an exe. Hell, I even wonder how you got a separate ico in the first place, without dealing with the exe, or something in the PA folder......
