    ...is out on FaF ;)

Heads up for those who liked FA, well the long awaited Galactic War (mod project, renamed to just galactic war) is finally out in open beta. And I can only recommend it. Not your typical FA experience.

Go try it, post your thoughts below.
oh and for those who never tryied FA, you should also try it out. If you owned Supcom, check to see if steam promoted your key to a gold edition (that means added FA), you only need to install FA. and on steam sales it'll be 2,49€.
gl hf all! and pick your faction well! UNITE!

Can you tell us? You're assuming that we'll enjoy it. Best to give us an idea of how it works so those that won't enjoy it won't waste their time.

Yep, I pretty much avoided Galactic War on FaF in the past because I couldn't find any information about it at all. :/

It's freaking terrible, imagine if automatch paired you consistently with someone 83 times your skill level... Why imagine when you can play that crap.

Probably because it takes more time to explain than see it, and as it's free ...

Also, as some things are changing regularly, it would take me more time writing informations on GW than coding it (I'm alone on this). You will have a complete website when it's released.

In a few word : It's similar to a computer board game, like Risk (or any territory based game), where you play FA instead of throwing dices.

It also have a very important hardcore role playing element (You create an avatar, and you are in the ACU, the acu explode, you die), with ranking up, intel (know who is who), and co-op :
Some ranks have access to things other don't, but they can share it, the amount of players that can gate in depend of the map.
So you can have a 3v1 if you are not careful, some people can delay "top" players on a planet so you can attack/depend freely on others part of the board, ...

Also, of course, new game elements.
As your avatar dies, you can recall any time. The farthest you are from your base, the longer it takes. It change the way the game is played a lot.
Planetary defenses : You can buy defenses on the map for the players defending attacks. Reinforcements : Units that are dropped and given to you by a friendly base nearby.
Asymmetric gameplay : A player may have different objective than you, with completely different way to play it.

You are missing the point. It's not a matchmaker (FAF has one that work perfectly already).

You are playing in a faction. These are your teammates. You need to communicate with them.
    Alone, you won't achieve anything.

If you level of play is low, ask better players to buy you units that can give you a great advantage against better players.
Or play only defense on planets that have heavy planetary defenses. If there is none, ask your team to buy some!

It's also completely normal to gate it, realize the guy is really strong, and recall immediately.
Now you know that player XXX is strong. Now, another player can delay him on a planet so you won't confront him anymore.

If you think it's another way to launch games, it can only disappoint you. There are existing options for that, Galactic War has a different role.

Also, remember it's not beta, but alpha (balance is not done at all).

One question from me - why does it have the same name as the planned PA metagame? Might this not get confusing?

There's no recall button, no communication (chat) area, there's none of this stuff you've mentioned. Either that or galatic war is in dire need of a tutorial.

You click on a planet, click attack, 30 seconds later you are thrown into a match with some sort of ultra pro who'll whoop you so bad that your begging for your momma, then it's over your character is dead. This is the full description of Galactic War for noobs, end of, there's nothing else there.

Well i certainly won't be playing it again, i'll stick to matches on setons with balanced teams thank you very much.

It's like covering cheese in chocolate sauce and pretending it's a game of monopoly.

FA had Galactic War planned years before kickstater even exists.

There is no tutorial because it's an alpha. But still :

    http://www.faforever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=4769#p51201

And yes, recall/chat/reinforcements, all is there. But you need to actually search yourself an

You probably missed the fact that it's an alpha test even you registered in a forum clearly stipulating it.
If you say so... But noob != ignorant.

I hadn't realised that Pilot's GW had been planned first. I didn't even know about FAF until The_Killer brought it to my attention when he joined the Realm. Please pardon my ignorance.

I take it as an homage :) (my project being itself an homage to the original GW team).

Did you finish that train of thought? Searching a game for features that are obscure and deliberately hidden != fun.

Nope.... I clicked join group, that's all. then turned the forum off as i had no intention of reading any further.

That's the very definition of a noob.
