http://www.scribd.com/doc/154934708/In- ... 6013701588 It was pretty interesting to know that the Uber was the backup bidder. (so sad they could not get it though...)
Ever since Taylor's *** words about PA what I want to see: every RTS player and his mother play PA and only hardcore TA fanboys play TA2 Then Jon makes a blog post congratulating Taylor on his success with TA2 in a sarcastical manner and we all laugh and continue playing PA
Well hopefully they get Chris Taylor and his team off that "triple A free to play MMO" onto TA2. Should be interesting.
You know, I feel kinda bad for Chris, his Kickstarter didn't get funded and to compound upon that, Uber made a more original game than he could have. But really, he kind of deserved it. Wildman as a flop because it was a well-worn genre, reminded people of the terribad Tribal Phase of Spore, and he kept promising Kings and Castles and kept yoinking it away. Before that was SupCom, which I considered a terrible spiritual successor to TA, at least in relation to the awesomeness that was TA itself. Then after SupCom was SupCom 2, which was... SupCom 2, let's leave it at that. He's lost the bits that made him himself.
I'm a hardcore TA fanboy... and I don't want TA 2... not with what happened between Chris and Uber, and certainly not with PA on the table, which seems to be staying truer to TA than SupCom could have ever done. It's too late Chris Taylor, we've seen your true colours.
Could you explain some more about what actually happened between them? I remember him saying PA could become hard to manage on multiple planets.
Its interesting to note that they also bought up the IP rights for MOO aswellI would like to see another MOO in the future that would be nice
Afaik nothing happened. Chris Taylor was just sceptical of PA because 2,3 Million Dollars isnt that much for it and multiple battlefields are pretty hard to get right. Some people misunderstood this I guess. However he did wish them the best of luck.
It's a very complicated story compounded by the fact that it's hard to confirm. If you search for some of the threads we've had regarding CT and his comments on PA in the past there is lots of little timbits of info to be found. For me, I don't have much faith in CT as a designer anymore, Demigod was a victim of feature creep to the point of running out of money and needing to pick up a Publisher(Stardock) and CT himself said that there were many high level mistakes made with SupCom2. Throw in the Wildman Fiasco(I still feel KnC would have been a better option) and yeah to be frank it's looking really questionable. But I expect TA2 to be a trainwreck. Mike
this is speculation, I don't think Chris Taylor means PA any ill, quite to the contrary. He has every reason to be supportive of PA Jon Mavor used to work with Chris Taylor. and these quotes arn't even that agressive and having their context would help. two part vid starts at 1:28 listen to the whole thing http://www.twitch.tv/thebigonetv/c/1520596 http://www.twitch.tv/thebigonetv/c/1520600
Well, even though they've acquired those IPs doesn't mean we get a TA2 or MoO4 out of it. Wargaming is a fully f2p publisher/developer. While World of Tanks is an excellent game making an RTS is something entirely diffferent. Also I highly doubt f2p can work with RTS (in the sense of traditional RTS ofc). So even if we get a TA2 it would take some serious divertion of "modern" game demographic targeting to get something I would want to play.
