Awesome feature. I'm wondering how it's going to play.

Small planet impacts with planet wide shock waves are now live on the Community Dedicated Server.

The Meteors for Community Dedicated Server mods will be automatically installed and enabled when needed.

    Small Planet Impacts

Impacts destroy the smaller planet and currently kill all units on the larger planet with a planet wide shock wave.

Small planets are defined as <= 250 radius.

Small planet impacts are triggered when the small planet radius is <= 50% of larger planet radius.

ie very simple math that ignores mass. eg a 200 radius small planet will impact with anything 400 radius or larger.

Everything else is a collision destroying both planets.

    Gas Giants

Gas giants can now be impacted and collided with.

You can't target them right now without a client update. You can move other planets into their orbits.

    Known Issues
    • hohmann transfer orbits around gas giants by small planets need tweaking
    • shock wave effects timing vs damager need tweaking
    To Do
    • finish impact vs collision highlighting in live game celestial targeting and planet selector
    • finish meteor location targeting and base killers with shock wave size based on planet radius
    • finish meteor biome
    • finish meteor system editor tweaks

Is radius going to be displayed in the in-game (not lobby) UI?

Don't need to. just change the targeting graphics to indicate a wave or a total annihilation, perhaps? Would also simplify the issue in game.

I would want to know before investing tens of thousands of metal.

Can we have a dynamic planet list in game such that when you click on a Halley-able planet, the other planets in the list will indicate the destruction type?

The following user interface changes are planned:
    • planet selector
      • show radius with tooltip
    • planet selector when targeting
      • different targeting icons with tooltips
      • maybe button text changes (these really need to wait for localisation project to restart)
      • fix celestial targeting view hover highlighting
    • celestial targeting view
      • different planet icons
      • improved hover rings
    • orbital visualiser
      • different colours for collision lines
The orbital visualiser collision lines are already a wider red.

    From http://steamcommunity.com/app/38607...6399594/?tscn=1520947843#c1697167355228211288:

Craters were removed because of the impact of large scale dynamic terrain deformation on the sim. Shock waves work around that issue.

Meteor sized objects typically burn up in the atmosphere creating localised shock waves. For playability the definition of a meteor sized object in PA has to be pretty flexible.

I'm starting with planet wide shock waves until location targeting and the meteor biome are finished. Some extra constraints are required to make very small radius meteors work.

In the final implementation meteors are radius 50 which is just big enough to build a halley and with location targeting they will create localised shock waves to kill bases.

Wil we also be able to have multiple kind of planet explosion effects?

I assume you mean for units like the ragnarok or holocene.

That's not currently possible as those are actually implemented in a way that does not include the original unit data.

It's on my very long list to include those as ammo specs like I've done with meteor impacts.

    Probably June.

Nuke targeting of gas giants was removed and I can't remember if gas giants could be smashed or destroyed by the annihilaser at release. From memory they have always been indestructible.

In reality gas giants are very difficult to destroy and I still might tweak the requirements for gas giant destruction in PA. eg > 75% to destroy and possibly a longer annihilaser firing time.

Gas giant destruction also really needs a different effect.

There's no point putting limits on the Annihilaser, it's a unit that if complete is designed to just close out the game.

A longer firing time is not a limit. It just takes a bit longer to destroy.

I could be wrong but by my memory gas giants were never smashable, used to be able to target with nukes though (would be great to see this again)

that would require the ability to build antinkues on gasgiants though

That might not be necessary. Gas planets are generally really big, so nukes are not very effective if you space out your factories enough. Jigs are easily replaced.

Yeah I agree with them not being very effective, I don't think gas giants are supposed to be something to turtle on. Anyways back to the topic at hand, I am really excited to see meteors in action. Will the shockwave clear the planet including wreckage and trees?

Is this the preferred place for feedback and bugs, or is there somewhere better to direct those to?
