For some reason the crash is occurring in the NVIDIA drivers. Since the drivers are already the latest version, I would suspect some other program trying to get between PA and the graphics. Did you already check the list of incompatible software? https://wiki.palobby.com/wiki/Windows_Incompatible_Software
And most importantly, the clean boot at the end of that list?

Not sure, the clean boot should have made the crashing stop if it was. You did try the clean boot, didn't you? ;)

Failing that, you could try doing a clean install of the drivers. That is, download the latest drivers from Nvidia again, remove the Nvidia drivers from the Software Panel, reboot the computer, install the newly downloaded driver, and reboot again.

If you downgrade the drivers to the previous version, does the game stop crashing?

    You go here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
Then do a "Manual Driver Search" for your GTX 970 and it should give you a list of all the older versions as well.

I guess you don't know which driver you had before the game started crashing on you, eh?
You might need to go back further. That is, to the 375 or 373 series.
