kde, gnome3, cinnamon or mate

Hey all!

I just completed successfully building and booting my very first very own arch linux and not only that i figured out on my own how to get it booting in GPT UEFI mode with systemd rather than grub. This setup has perfection woven into the details

It boots up to a terminal and awaits noting more than the commands which will install a user interface to it.

I only have experience with unity thats the only thing i know but A its time for me to discover something else and B wayland is out Mir is not (I've tried it its only beta and not very functional) and another little bunch of things are incompatible with the Unity environment (not to mention i dislike that contrary to others it uses gpu and not cpu) so its off the cards.

Oh and i know installing them all is an option but doing that murders the boot time so i only want to install one and not change it.

How about openbox? Very minimalist.

You could also try one of the tiling window managers, like awesome, or i3.

Edit yeah awesome and i3 are built on X. Low chances they were already made for wayland

Edit: openbox is also non-wayland

ended up going with gnome3
i'm quite liking it (apart for some of the dual screen features i'm apparently missing out on)

I personally like the xfce interface. It's minimalist and clean and pretty light weight. I currently run stock Ubuntu but Unity is a bit meh.

Not anymore, I used to run Arch. Yeah gnome3 looks good. I guess I just don't like how heavy it feels. When I am on linux, I just want the best way to get a terminal window going. Once I have that, I am happy.

its too easy to to break stuff and a lot of the things don't come out of the box fully functional. I really preferred the stability and ease of use (and massive community!! there wouldn't be so much ubuntu-oriented content if there weren't so many users) of ubuntu.

the thing is I hate x-org and i can't really wait to get out of it but Mir doesn't seem to be moving along.

that being said ppl do seem to have mir up and running so who am I to talk...

Well, in seriousness, I've used KDE since forever, and I quite like it. I may have grown to accustomed to it though. Nice integrated calendar/mail suite that suits my needs.

I officially got tired of my arch. its too breaky and getting stuff set up and functional is tedious. i'm gonna get a packed os.

they're amazing and numerous. and as far as i know only debian ubuntu zorin and manjaro (basically the debian tree) benifit from them?

on ubuntu (and most others i would hope but apparently not arch +gnome) it's default mapped to control+alt+T

I don't mean how quickly I can get one, I mean, conceptually, how much of the window manager is involved with that. Unity and gnome3 ect. solve a much more general problem of window management; which to me feels heavy. xD
