I checked the date twice to verify that we do not have the 1st april already.
And it's fact: There is no timezone that far ahead. I just watched a livestream from some Microsoft-event somewhere where they were just showing it off. They used apt to install gcc, wrote a simple hello world in C in vi, compiled it with gcc to a linux 64 bit binary and it just worked.
If this is real and works the way they make it look like I'll update to Windows 10 and just setup my whole developer-stuff they way I'd do on a linux machine, while running windows.

This is the kind of new feature that I do upgrade my OS for, as far as I am concerned this combines the superior developer-stuff of linux with the superior entertainment stuff of windows. Perfect for my single home-machine that happens to have the need to be good at both these things.

Max from what I understand to get git on that you'd do something like:
apt-get install git
say Y and there you go: Use git.

Do you use GRUB and have a dual boot system with linux and windows?

It's running Windows 7 and I just have to accept the issues that come with it. I am just too lazy for dualboot xD I tried to completely replace Windows with Ubuntu before, but stuff like games just are a letdown with ubuntu. On other systems I have that I only ever use to work I run (x)ubuntu.

Well imagine a Windows that can run anything that also runs on linux as well. You just open a "linux" command line shell on windows and in there you can do anything you could do on a real linux box. Directly install any linux software. Compile software for linux, etc. The ultimate combination of linux and windows, the best of both worlds.
Now in practice I am sure it at least for now has a bunch of issues, but the concept certainly is very appealing if you happen to be part of the group of people who:
a) privately grew up with Windows
b) professionally realized a long time ago that linux is a really cool platform to develop software on.

it's just the opposite makes a world more sense to me. windows needs to be accounted for; it's irresponsible. and running it sandboxed will accomplish just that.

gimme a weeksor so and I should finally be on my hardware passthrough rig and I'll post here with the results.

I'm installing Windows 10 over the fact all future Microsoft titles will be available on the Windows Xbox store thingy- Even if bought for the Xbox One originally. So games I own on the one can be played on PC. Which is pretty sweet.

But I'm just going to buy a separate hard drive dedicated to it. Hot swap them out whenever I feel it.

I'd say you could do something similar @cola_colin but maybe it wouldn't be as reasonable.

Anything that gets offered for free as part of a business plan always raises pretty large red flags for me...
