    Hi folks,

    I've been wanting to do a tourney of this type for a while.
    Though I aware that elements may not appeal to some pro-players. But I feel that changing up the format could be .... dare I say 'fun'? :p

    Anyway, see my plan below;
    tourneyoutline.jpg

    This would likely stretch over a couple of days, perhaps 2 consecutive saturdays.

    Let me know what you think.

    What don't you understand?

    You play an FFA game which determines which bracket you go into.

    Then it's a simple 1v1 with either single or double elimination depending on preference.

    The winners of each bracket play against each other to determine the overall winner.

    the G1 - 1st, 3rd - 4th, 2nd part ..

    otherwise it´s a winner/loser bracket type tourney like it has been used in the starcraft 2 toournaments?

    how long does a match go? and how the final/final with player from losers?
    will there be best of 5 or best of 7 or just generaly best of 3?

    The G1 etc are just to name the games. Like games are labelled as 1,2,3 or a,b,c and so on.

    1st = Last man standing
    4th = First to be killed in the ffa

    It only has winner/loser brackets in the 1v1 section if people want a double elimination at that stage.
    Matches go until winners are declared. Again B03 can be in the finals if people desire it.

    You are confusing the 'lower' bracket with a 'losers' bracket. This is not the case. It is merely the pool of players in your bracket as determined by the outcome of the FFA.

    I think the first of ffa one should play the last of ffa 2. Then the 2th of ffa one plays the 3th of ffa 2. If you have 2 single brackets with winners and losers, you will have more chance of making it to the finals if you're in the "loser's bracket".

    hmm interesting. Have 1st and last in one bracket and 2nd and 3rd in another. That could work. But then also lower likelihood of a player who was last in ffa making it to the finals.

    I'm worried that hardcore players will feel the design is unfair if they get focused down in the FFA and end up in a bracket that isn't fairly weighted against the other.

    I guess the hardcore players can redeem themselves in the elim rounds

    So there is no actual benefit for doing well in the FFA?

    Of course FFA:s can be pretty random or unfair, but statistically stronger players are still more likely to win. So the green bracket would be stronger in theory. Which means you should actually lose to improve your chances. Except that everyone else may think the same way (if their pride allows losing, that is...)

    If there is some particularly dangerous opponent in your FFA, you might want to play yourself to the other bracket in various ways... Killing him first and winning would work of course. Or if you want to be more tricky, making sure he gets good position and then dying first.

    Well, I'm not saying it's good or bad, and I don't know whether anyone would think too hard about it. It's maybe just a bit odd to have a tournament game where your best move just might be instant self-destruct. :)

    Standard seeding practice is that the strongest player is matched with the weakest player, and the second strongest with the second weakest, etc. The idea being that the strongest players battle in the final as that's where the ultimate battle should happen.

    That could be fun :p How would you rank it? Like a race giving difference points to 'placing' (i.e. winner- last man standing- gets 10 points, second gets 5 and 1 point for 3rd or something, most points wins overall?)...?

    @wpmarshall nice idea, although I don't really understand what the purpose is of the initial FFA? It sorts players into 2 brackets but as both brackets are equal, it doesn't appear to have any specific benefit?

    I'd argue you'd be better to make the FFA be an early 'knock out' round- where the first and second place player go through to the 1 v 1 tourney while 3rd and 4th are 'relegated' (a bit like the group stage in international football)?
