CPU Xeon 3,4-3,8GHz 8core (hypertreading) GPU R9 280X 3GB RAM 16GB 1600MHz dual channel G1 sniper B6 systém disk SSD intel 128GB steam disk WD 640GB 600W corsair Windows 10 64bit direct x12 resolution 1680x1050 newest drivers game is from steam a it is only PA without Titans settings is uber but does not matter if i set the lowest.. fps is same usual i getting about 30-40fps.. CPU usage 20-40% on every core (max 70%) ... GPU usage 20-40% (max 60%).. RAM usage 4-10GB .. what is the bottleneck of my hardware? every single hardware of PC has a lot of potencial unused.. still getting 30-40fps.. max 50-55.. min 20. In menu shows about 50fps. Why PA cant use more of power of GPU,CPU to get higher fps? I playing just offline games.
with this CPU? in menu is single core usage about 30-40% .. max 60%.. - 40-45fps. In game is the same. here is printscreen with rivatuner screen monitor in menu
ok but this is the one what is much more better on single core operation than every AMD and many intel procesors. If a have problem with this.. 90% others would have the same issue. and if would be really issue in single core, than why it goes just for 38% and never above 60%.. i just played one mission in galactic war with 4 planets with more than 1000 units and it goes min 23fps.. usage gpu and cpu was still same. Setting is Uber. In cinebench R11.5 64bit i have 112,34fps in opengl test... so opengl is running fine in this system i guess
That's the point with single core-bottlenecks: You basically get one core that maxxes out and the others idle, so the overall usage of the cpu isn't very high.
i´ve never talked about overall usage of CPU.. overall is about 10-15% ... at the pictures I put here you can see the usage of every single core.. only on one is about 40% in menu. In game with 1000+units is 55%
Well Hyperthreading basically puts two threads on one real core, so 55% on a "hyperthreaded core" sounds like one thread on one hyperthreaded core is using all resources it has. But that is just me guessing, I dunno how exactly the cpu load is displayed when hyperthreading is involved. It's not making it easier to understand, that much is certain.
Correct, also Windows has a weird habit of bouncing threads around, so it *looks* like you haven't got a single fully utilized thread when in fact you have. I do a lot of CAD work and you get this issue all the time. Most CAD operations are serial in nature and therefore you sit waiting for a single thread to catch up with rest of cpu idle. @mavecze if you want a better idea of *what* is holding the engine back, press 'ctrl + p' in game (there are 3 screens, press again to move to next one). First screen covers the graphics pipeline, it lists each process and how many ns / ms it's taking giving the total. Lower the total per frame render time, higher the fps. I'll bet it's something like the physics or navigation calcs that hold it back. What I would say though, almost all *large scale* rts games I play have this same problem. They are all limited by the simulation. PA is pretty good running fairly smoothly with 1000+ units. Most other rts games limit the unit count to under 100 just to avoid this. It's only really the 'annihilation' games that don't impose this limit. I guess PA and SupCom are the best performing RTS games right now, AOTS looks like it might be able to cope with large numbers of units too. TA can handle quite a lot as well despite being an old engine (although 500 is probably the practical limit in the original TA engine).
well, so I tried to turn off hyperthreading, and the result is practically the same. It seems the cores are usage bit more, but always around 50-70% on one core .. the rest is 10-40%. and when i run cinebench benchmark with hypertreading and 8cores are running,.. it shows me that every single core has 100% usage
ok the printscreen is attached. Can you see some problem there? I have the same position with disabled hypertreading
I can't see anything unusual on those screens. Cinebench is specifically written to create a 100% cpu load on any CPU. PA is specifically written to let you play a RTS game.
of course, i just wanted explain that could be possible to reach 100% of usage on each of 8cores .. 8x100% ok, never mind, everything is normal, obviously i cant reach more than 40-50fps on any settings what i set... lowest-uber it doesnt matter.
Is the frame rate causing you any specific problems? Or are you just seeing how well you can run the game?
First in game like this, i just need min 30fps .. and that it could provide me right now almost entire game.. but even in the most demanding part the hole system going 50% usage or less and there would be nice if i has more power that it could goes still over 30fps. Second i just wondering why even in menu could not reach more than 40-50fps. For example in menu of Dirt rally is about 300-400fps if i dont switch v-sync or frame-limiter on. And if doesnt matter what graphic setting a choose, than i thought somewhere is a problem.
Have you read the page linked below? Maybe some more things to try. https://forums.uberent.com/threads/techniques-for-improving-framerate.54492/ Also are you able to try playing online(single player) with the local server set to off, to see if taking the server load of you pc will help increase your frame rate.
Some info about the UI, which could be related to the bottleneck. http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/0/666825524976738028/#c666825525057288414
yes i saw it all. The only thing which could improve fps in my case is to run the game from his folder. That can get me from 35fps to 55fps.. but when goes to the battle than in both case is about 30-35fps. Really strange is i can set low graphics settings and subsample 50% and it is still almost same like uber and supersample 175%. local server on/off do nothing ... disable UI by ctrl-U also nothing. Never mind.. i will run the game from folder, what improve the performace a lot and its enough for decent playing... Thanks to all
Sounds like the steam overlay still lowers FPS. If you wanted I think you should be able to use the Uber client instead of steam. https://store.uberent.com/download/pa
