    Yeah I was pleasantly surpised by the coverage. After the BBC's handling of other games related news (e.g. 'there is this thing called Twitch where spotty teenagers watch other spotty teenagers play games') I was expecting something between a hatchet job and a load of totally misinformed rubbish. I'm very glad to be wrong on this one!

    Currently its a circa 30gb install. It's projected to use around 200gb by launch (once they've added in all the compression stuff). So that's probably a bit overkill :p

    I mean you can get a 500gb SSD for £80 now, so drive space isn't really going to be that big of an issue.

    Well that and also if you look into how they do they're texturing it's really efficient for the quality.

    Specifically they use a system more akin to CAD rendering for things like ships, where they specify a range of base materials that are tiled over an object, then add detail using a layer of decals over the top, rather than a traditional unwrapped texture. It means the textures are insanely detailed even up close, but only actually a few mb whereas the same texture produced in the traditional way would be hundreds of mb.

    That was pretty good. They did a poor job at explaining the pledge system though. I hope more people hear what CR says about game development being a long process filled with delays and cancellations too.

    Too bad it was edited together by a one-armed wrestler with a gun to his head.

    And the cameraman almost dropped the camera at one point.

    It was done for the BBC News 24 channel- so it was probably filmed by the one-armed intern as part of a collage course :p
