https://medium.com/@FineBrothersEnt/a-message-from-the-fine-brothers-a18ef9b31777#.o487727ia Now we just need to yell at Valve more to stop flucking up Early Access and kill Greenlight.
What happened? Edit: Boogie's video has brought me up to speed. There is much derp in such "landmark" goal.
Gotta love how they took down the videos. Whatever happened to being "a time capsule that even 100 years from now people can look back at to see what various generations were saying about culture" eh? Asshats.
I fear yelling won't work with Valve as it hasn't for years now. People need to 'act' and maintain that stance. It's the same with pre-orders and BS DLC etc. Voting with your wallets takes out established positions. Yelling takes out those who are taking risks to get establishment.
It worked when Squenix did that shite "augment your preorder" thing. Though admittedly it's entirely possible that they just weren't making money off it but I doubt enough people didn't buy into it for that to be true. Because some people are just incredibly stupid. GOG launched an early access thing. Only they did it right. So maybe competition will make Valve do something? A "spring cleaning"?
Aren't valve focusing on hardware now though? I thought that was the reason behind steam as a platform becoming the cesspit it is. All we do is hope. I need to check out GoG, so far all I've used it for is Rogue Squadron, TA and the Last Journey games.
what? I mean.... seems a bit harsh I wouldn't exactly say steam as a platform has become a cesspit. I though the only part of steam that was a cesspit was it's forums? but when people reacted against the mods fiasco valve immediately withdrew. I gotta say honestly so far steam has brought more good then it has taken back. GoG on the other hand (I think you will find) does have some of that cesspit vibe you're looking for (or rather arn't). they claim they want to be 100% DRM free yet don't : http://www.gog.com/forum/ashes_of_t...player_between_steam_and_galaxy_updates/page1 they have the pretense to say they support linux yet actively do linux great disservices. their client which is becoming more and more mandatory is in a less advanced state than my own FAF client and is riddled with bugs and inconveniences most noteworthy is the absence of a port to linux (2 years and running now) for an app made in C++. this is appalling; especially when you consider that all you have to do is click on "export to" on whatever IDE you're running.
I personally enjoyed the whole bit with paid mods, I just feel the quality checking for mods wasn't there. If there were admins (even community admins working for free/or whatever) I'd be happy. Because the idea makes sense, work isn't free and the only reason people got mad about it is because they don't value the work modders put in. (Imo)
same!!! I honestly feel the whole mod thing wasn't that bad the only real killer was the huge valve cut which had no real justification.
If modders want to be taken seriously, they need to pay the same kind of costs real companies do. That includes distribution cuts. The amount the mods made was beyond generous. The uproar over the amount just makes me think that the mod community isn't mature enough to be taken as a serious business.
