So I recently bought PA from the humble bundle and redeemed the steam code for it, so I don't have PA connected to an Uber Entertainment account (I made this one for getting on the forums). however, when I start up the game, It states that the game is offline in the right bottom-hand corner. afterwards, I go to singleplayer, and try to connect to an AI skirmish, but I only get an error like this: "unable to access world simulator: returning to main menu" Also, when going to settings, I am unable to find any servers on the servers tab. switching Local play to On instead of Auto does nothing. I've already attempted to put steam into offline mode and launch PA.exe manually, no luck. attempting to use the Uber entertainment account leads to failure. and every time I come back to the main menu, for a split moment, I see "connecting to PlayFab" However I stay in offline mode. I also attempted a non-steam version of PA but the username and password I used did not have a PA key attached to it, so I couldn't access the game. I am running on Windows 10 with a Dell Latitude|E6530. It is a custom with a Quad i7 core, Integrated graphics, extended battery, and 8 GBs RAM. Please Help.
It kind of sounds like PA is being blocked from accessing the network. Do you have any firewalls or virusscanners that you could try disabling? If it works then, then you need to figure out how to add PA as an exception. Playing a game with the local server turned on should always work really, even when not logged in.
Sorry for not mentioning, one of the first things I tried was white-listing PA as well as deactivating all firewalls on the computer. Are more people encountering this issue other than me?
There are a few similar threads in this forum. Sometimes it goes away on its own, sometimes the person asking the question never responds, and sometimes it's the firewall/virus scanner/ad blocker. Apart from total Uber server meltdowns, which are obviously very rare, it's just isolated cases. And even then, playing with the local server turned on should work for AI skirmish. You don't happen to have Steam in off-line mode, do you? Can you post a PA log of a session? Preferably one where you have the local server turned on and are trying to play an AI Skirmish. You can find those in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log".
Hi, I'm the friend of blazebot, we attend the same university, and I've been trying to get it working for him. the thing is, I'm running on the same type of connection using a linux computer and it works perfectly for me, but for him it keeps failing to "access the world simulator". we have tried it in both offline mode and online mode, trying to launch it both manually and from steam for both cases. additionally, the system editor still works on his computer, so you can still edit systems and see their topographical map and everything. It's really weird and has had me stumped more lately. The next step I'm thinking of trying, since we're in different dorms, is possibly having him bring his laptop to my room to try my connection.
Yeah, but even then, a local AI Skirmish game should always work (if the local server is on). Even if you unplug the Ethernet cable and disable the WiFi. The only reason that would break is a hosts file that has been corrupted, or if some program is blocking PA from using the network (including the loopback device), or if the server.exe is crashing. The first and third cause would only apply to the local AI Skirmish games though and not multi-player. That's why I think something is blocking his PA.exe somehow. Unless multiple things are going on of course. The log file I mentioned may have more details about why your friend can't connect to anything. In any case, I'd start by trying to figure out why local AI Skirmish games don't work with the local server turned on. If that's fixed then multi-player will probably start working too.
Thanks! And, yeah, see: Code: [18:08:58.468] INFO Couldn't resolve host '4.uberent.com' and Code: [18:09:56.422] INFO Could not resolve server hostname "localhost" So something is really blocking all of PA's network connections. You can check to see if Steam is to blame by running PA.exe directly from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Planetary Annihilation\bin_x64". No need to log in, but if an AI Skirmish game works when you launch it outside of Steam like that, then Steam is to blame. If an AI Skirmish game still doesn't work, then it is something like a firewall, virus scanner or adblocker that's causing this. You may even want to try a clean boot to stop any software from doing bad stuff. Though I think it still lets firewalls start, I'm not sure about that.
