I feel like they should hype the crap out of an update that only changes the BOLO back to Ant. As it should be! (Though BOLO would have to rename something else in honor of his biceps.)

To me this article partly sounded like the end of big updates is coming to PA. I'm wrong about this, right?

I just woke up and read all the posts on reddit, I lost some hope in humanity. God dammit.

@Going4Quests thats not true, we will get a lot more stuff, we have mysterious update for example.

Yeah I don't bother with some of the comment sections anymore. They just make me depressed in some cases. Also to directly quote @Bsport I tend to see a lot of comments that are either "It isnt supcom 3 so it is in turn ****", or just blind hate toward the game for some reason. I love pa personally so I am biased to some level but I just don't understand what makes people say the game is **** for an RTS.

Ah well what can you do, the internet will be the internet.

Other than that excellent work with the game to date all you devs at uber. This is also the first game to get me into playing online and also get me into modding, for that especially this game will forever be remembered by me.

Oh my, there are a lot of posts that starts with something like "I've played a few games but this suxs". It is really saddening to see such a blunt refusal of something new.
Moving from flat maps to spheres is a really big step, and for sure the first time you play on sphere you will get your a.. handed to you, even by the normal AI. Yes that isn't nice, and to be honest the first games I felt like standing naked on a planet, the enemy attacked just from everywhere, but once I got a hang on the concept that there isn't a predetermined front line it started to feel more and more natural.
And now I'm at a point where I can't even imagine going back to flat maps.

    Thank you, Uber.

The game is hardly all singing all dancing, is it?

Sure, it's good for 1v1 but people complain that you can't get to T2.
FFA is fun but it's INCREDIBLY unbalanced.
2v2, 3v3 etc.. I've not had any fun playing a single team game, and I loved 4v4 on Supcom.

The game could be so much more... playful.

Commander king of the hill, moving platforms, fixed pre-built teleporters, in-game bonuses for killing units, post-game awards based on play-style, 20 player games, interesting terrain, waves, meteor showers, playable craters, Where is it?!

The biggest killer in my opinion is that there is only a SINGLE faction. How on early can you build any kind of attachment to the battle if you're playing a mirror player? This should be the exception not the norm!

I hope to god that sometime soon they pull their finger out and do something with the terrain. After that I hope to god that they write some kind of expansion pack (Where new players can only buy the game with this pack) which includes two new factions. The units don't even have to behave that differently, just different skins, gun effects, and slight differences in stats to affect play-style.

The last couple of major updates, which have taken MONTHS, have added absolutely nothing to the game as far as I'm concerned.

I don't want to be that stick in the mud, but a lot of the complaints aren't... unwarranted.

Although many are more along the lines of visual taste and faction taste (Only having one, one that always looks the same even with the limited lore...blah blah blah.)

So I do feel like it's important to remember that while yes, Reddit is a whiny little git, it is whining for real reasons. Even if misinformed on a few of them (Which is easy to do when you don't come to the forums as such.)

As I have said elsewhere in the forum.

Bug fixes are boring, but they do kinda need to be done.

The problem doesn't sit solely with the choice to only do a single faction, the problem is that the single faction was executed poorly.

In your opinion. I personally find the current build pretty balanced (aside from the OTT super weapons, which lets face it aren't really meant to be balanced). It follows a very similar paradigm to TA. That may not be what you and a few others think they *should* have followed (i.e. the infuriating 'flat t1- t2' argument) however given PA is the spiritual successor to TA I really don't find it surprising the way they went.

Essentially most of your arguments Mike revolve around the fact 'it isn't a supcom sequel' and you're damned right it isn't, and thank **** for that. I never liked SupCom nearly as much as TA or PA.

After the direction 2 went, I'm thankful for that.

Seriously though, PA doesn't need to be SupCom 3, they have similarities, they have differences but both SupCom: FA and PA are fantastic games

I think you've confused me for someone else in the thread as I didn't mention or even imply any of the things you said I did. My comment has no relation to balance, even if PA's current roster was perfectly balanced and everyone agreed it was my comment would still be valid.

The point I was making is that people were incorrectly identifying the problem as "It only has one Faction, it would have been better with more*" when the actual root problem is more so akin to "PA's Unit Roster provides insufficient diversity to allow me to identify with a specific play style/strategy of my choosing". Right now, to me it s as though PA's current roster is roughly equivalent in variety as a mirror match in Starcraft 2, it's not that there isn't any variety in what can be done so much that it's not enough variety to keep things interesting in the long run.

What PA needs to overcome this (while sticking to only a single faction) is ultimately more options, whether it comes from new units, new mechanics, new terrain or some combination of those and more it doesn't really matter so long as the end result is more options.

*Technically this is also correct in a sense as well but for the above we are operating under the assumption of keeping the single faction ideology.

I totally agree with this. This is the only reason I've stopped playing PA recently. Even if all they did was make it so that you could play an entire game using only one unit type, and still do as well as someone who played with mixed unit types, that on it's own would be a pretty good start. Unfortunately, as it stands, you only really play in a few different ways, and you always use all of the factories. It's a bit disappointing in a way how each factory has it's niche to such a degree where that one thing is all they are really good at doing. A few T2 or specialist units that break from the general role of that unit type would be cool.

Yet what draws me to TA and PA is its inherent simplicity at a basic level. I also love homeworld 1 for the same reason. Adding huge amounts of complexity via massive unit pools, or complicated technology trees, upgrades and such are in my eyes the fastest way to ruin an rts. Case in point I quickly discovered why I didn't get in with homeworld 2 again when I got the remastered edition.

I disagree with you that the PA unit roster is that bad. The gameplay in PA is about expansion, positioning and countering rather than memorizing lengthy builds and upgrade paths to reach a specific 'i win' build.

To be fair, GA's wreckage and huge turning circles are infuriating, as is the UI that doesn't show what units are selected.
