    ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

if it´s both entertainning to watch and play ... then yes
if people can organise it ... then yes

of course there is purpose for clans and that is to get out top in clan based tournaments/events

i think that the community is primarily responsible to organise and hold those tournaments ...
i don´t see uber being able to provide anything particularly useful to easily create and organise such events ...

ranked is ranked and not everybody plays those regularly or at all and still likes to participate in events or tournamets if possible ..
i think the recent big bang qualifiers show that that can work actualy and i don´t nessesarily see too many issues with

so i say tournaments and events should be focused on by the community and
uber should focus on providing better ranked play

I agree with @stuart98 the community so small and the clans do maintain only a small portion of their membership. Everyone should join realm :p. We would have one voice chat hub.

The idea that clans divide the community might be far fetching. I don't think members of P, BRN, NW, and RLM really care about who is in what clan (IMO... I could be wrong). The nice thing about clans is there is a group of good to elite players to team-up with instead of playing with randoms which can be an adventure. The nice thing about clan vs clan matches is there are typically good players playing. Plus it gives you more reason to care about a game.

What purpose is served by having multiple voice chats with a couple of people on at a time rather than one large teamspeak for everyone with a dozen people on at once? What advantage do clans have in a community as small as ours over one big hub? What purpose does a clan serve in Planetary Annihilation?

No purpose. I agreed with you on the chat (again everyone join rlm).

Back in December and January clans were pretty strong. We had 5 pretty big clans and one icy ***. Clans seemed to be very involved with the community. Clans were having social events, holding tournaments, training new members and competing with fellow clan. They had a clear purpose.

Now there are less active clans and really no events in the last couple months. The community has shrank. Now the community has to rely heavily on exodus for events. The ladder has lost some luster because of hidden scoring system and a lack of players/equality.

Clans are a way to declare a more formal team. This isn't a bad team- having a group of people you regularly play in a team with. I guess the term 'clan' infers more than that although that's the only real benefit to them in PA.

Part of the reason I stopped paying with my clan as much is that it tends to get quite noisy when there are too many people. Can you imagine what it would be like with all the clans combined??

On a day to day basis I see:
    DNGR
    RLM
    BRN
    NW
    =VoW=
    PAG

and those are just who I remember

There aren't vast numbers of clans, that is true, but I wouldn't come even close to saying clans are dead

I never said one channel, just one server. People should by all means create channels as needed.

Haha MBC is the only American clan right? That automatically makes it the best.

I didn't think Donger clan had a nationality... kinda like Antarctica. Just existed. Good to know there is now 2 primary murican clans.

The Donger like the MBC is a joke clan(I think go ahead and correct me @KillerKiwiJuice if I am wrong) , we exist just to exist, have fun and welcome newer players into a clan where they can learn and have stupid fun and not have to join the big team clans (PAG,RLM....etc)

We were much larger back then. And we had all of the top players on top of that!

Such fun when Cumsume and I would skitter people to death :p

This is kind of a weird situation. If we don't have clans then there's no reason to have clan wars, but if there's no clan wars there's not much of a reason to join a clan :O Don't have to be official tournaments with prizes and all that, I'd just like to see more high quality team games, both to play in and to watch on twitch and youtube and whatnot.

Wrong bobchaos. A clan is really handy for having some proper teamgames. No random building insta t2 and going t2 nukes because if they will you can shout at them through VOIP and they'll probably never do it again.

Maybe there needs to be like a tourney in the format of supercommander but then for clan people. Super sunday clan fights.

I'm on holiday but just stopped by to check up on things here, so a fairly short post from me but I think a fairly relevant link for the above discussion on the relevance of clans in PA.

    https://forums.uberent.com/threads/an-invitation.46413/

The reason I first brought the Realm to PA was this. When Uber were first discussing with us the ideas they had for Galactic War, the concept of some sort of clan-based meta game was very much at the forefront of my excitement for it. It was mentioned in several livestreams and I was fortunate enough to have a dialogue with Neutrino about the idea and it was something he was very excited for too, though neither of us had any idea how it could be effectively implemented.

In that light, yes I can see why people might argue that clans are redundant in PA. However, in my experience, one of the things which keeps people playing PA is the friendships and friendly rivalries which players form among themselves. We're extremely lucky to have a largely positive and close-knit community surrounding this game, and people frequently hop on other teamspeaks to arrange games and socialise. I've made friends in this community that I hope will stick with me for a very long time to come.

I'd like to write more but the sun is hot and my phone is overheating a little. I'm awaiting @Bsport's feature with bated breath ;)

@cwarner7264 thanks for the heads up on how clans came into existence in PA. I agree there a social aspect that keeps people playing the game longer than they otherwise would. I also agree with @cdrkf and @Alpha2546 that if we agree to try to keep clans active there should probably be some clan match setup either weekly or biweekly events and that the focus of clan matches is competitive multiplayer. An event maybe not to the extent of clan wars because of the issue explained by @Bsport post, however 3v3 and 2v2 matches should eliminate some of those issues. Would there be support for such events? I know rlm and p could put teams together but could the other clans?

I agree with someone(maybe @stuart98 ) that these tournaments should be open to random teams (dongers and MBC included)/players and maybe a centralized chat system (TS, gamevox, or whatever) could save clan's money and make it easier to have a central base of operations. Also @BobChaos, I understand what you mean, if there are no clan events or matches there isn't a purpose for clans.
