Hello friends! I've been working on a bit of an effect mod. The idea is to make all the vanilla effects which are sometimes a bit hard to see really bright and colorful. I also want it to be easy to determine what is shooting you if all you can see is the projectile trails.

Here is a bit of a look at what the mod does, details follow.

Units that I've added effects to:
    Vehicles
    • Bolo
    • Inferno
    • Leveler
    • Sheller
    Bots
    • Dox
    • Grenadier
    • Slammer
    Naval
    • Piranha
    • Narwhal
    • Orca
    • Leviathan
    • All torpedo weapons
    Defenses
    • Pelter
    • Holkins
    • Single Laser Turret
    • Double Laser Turret
    • Triple Laser Turret
    Air
    • Kestrel
    Commanders
(All three weapon variants for the commanders get a special effect)

You can get the current version of the mod from PAMM (Search for: [WIP] More Pew Pew).

I would love to hear any comments.

You know... the metal planet does glow down all the trenches when the Anihilasor fires... would it be possible to mod the metal planet so that:
1: It no longer requires catalysts to operate
2: It has no actual weapon

Then you could (in theory?) do some particle magic to the firing animation on the planet to make it a disco ball :D

Why not just make it an effect attached to the commander?

My main question, how did you decide on colours, and do they have any significance? E.g. I liked that in TA the light spectrum was used to determine the power of laser weapons.

    To elaborate

Orange - Very light weapons. These were mounted on scout vehicles and the core assault kbot.
Red - Light weapons. single barrel laser tower, commander, and most other light lasers.
Both of these would, depending on the unit, get rapid-fired or fired once every second or so.

Green - Heavy laser. Mounted on the multi-barrel laser tower and several T2 units for the core.
Rate of fire between once every 1-2 seconds.

Blue - BloD. Mounted on the tier 2 defenses (which were anti-heavy, not anti-swarm) and two of arms t2 units.
Rate of fire somewhere around once every 7-8 seconds.

To add to this the weapon durations were also taken into account so:
Orange / red lasers would last for a very short period (0.5 seconds?)

Green lasors would last about a second with a short gap between shots which helped make them feel more powerful.

Blue super lasors would last several seconds (4 ish) with an equally big gap.

Green laser was at least twice the range of the basic tank while orange/red were comparable to it. Blue outranged the pelter equivalent by a fair margin, at least on the arm variant.

I know modding the metal planet for strange effects is probably a lot of work... but disco metal planets (maybe several) in a system.... :p

Pretty much, the colors do indicate power.
    Red < Orange < Green < Blue < Pink < Violet
These power levels are really more a ballpark though. I still choose the exact colors based on what I think would look pretty. This is a good example of the kind of things I would like input on.
