    Okay so let me start with my pc hardware specs.

    I have windows 8.1 64-bit OS, Intel core i3 dual core 3.5Ghz, 32 Gb DDR3 Ram, 2GB GDDR5 PNY Nvidia Graphics card.

    I get an error saying pa.exe stopped working. The most I can do is get 20 minutes into the game max, no longer. hell I even saved just to be sure.

    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, I looked at other forums and it doesn't help.

    It crashes on me on for various reasons
    -Upon AI Skirmish loaded
    -when going to the main menu after a skirmish
    -After building 5 units (buildings)
    -After killing a nearby commander
    -and of course at random moments

    Also I would like to point out this is all one player, not sure if its still online when I choose to play alone.
    any idea on how to help.

    can you upload your DxDiag please. Your drivers are probably out of date.

    He means to run the dxdiag program and make it save to a file. The easiest way is to press <WinKey>+R, type "dxdiag", and press "Save All Information...". Upload the resulting file here by using the Upload a File button on this forum.

    Hello,

    I checked your video drivers and they are fine.

    Do you have any programs from this list that may interfere with PA?

    Yeah I already checked that and I don't have any of those, I custom built my pc and it runs very nicely. After updating, before the dxdiag, I'm trying the game again on the lowest video setting for the time being. so far so good, just watch it'll crash when I post this.

    The errors in your DxDiag.txt about PA are always about "StackHash". This can be caused by DEP (Data Execution Prevention). To test that theory, could you try the following?
    Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties";
    1. Click on "Advanced System Settings";
    2. Click the "Settings..." button in the "Performance" frame;
    3. Choose the tab "Data Execution Prevention";
    4. Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:";
    5. Click on "Add..." and browse to your PA install directory. Go in the bin_x64 directory and add PA.exe. You may need to do this for the PA.exe in the PA install directory itself too;
    6. Click Ok to close the dialogue and see if you can crash PA again.
    If that doesn't help, just undo the changes again.

    It says that it doesn't work with 64-bit executables.

    Oh, oops, I missed this part:
    So it can't be disabled easily, I guess.

    If you use the UberLauncher, could you try hitting verify a couple of times? Or if Steam, verify the integrity of the game cache?

    I have it under steam, where would I find the game cache?

    click on the library tab in the top of steam then right click on Planetary Annihilation, go to properties, then click on the local files tab and click verify integrity of game cache. It's unlikely that you have invalid files though.

    Well, next step is the system files then, I guess. You can do that with sfc /scannow. For details see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
    You will probably need to reboot afterwards if it finds errors.

    If that doesn't work, you can try a clean boot. How to do that is described here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/

    And while we are at it: Can you check the following list and see if you have any software from it on your computer:

    Still crashing with the same problem. Would it be resolved if I got a different graphics card? or even beefing up from a dual core i3 to a quad core?

    No, your card and processor are fine. Those shouldn't cause your crashes.

    As a test, could you try unplugging your USB headset and see if that makes any difference at all? PA used to have problems with those sometimes and I'm not certain if that ever got resolved.

    And another idea: Could you try the UberLauncher instead of Steam? Maybe Steam is doing something funky. You can download the UberLauncher here: https://store.uberent.com/download/pa

    I'll try all that tomorrow since it's 1:04pm where I'm at. give me 11 hours and I should have something posted then. And thanks for the help so far.

    Alright so I got the uber launcher and the game crashes a LOT less. I still get it though. it still happens every time I start a game but I usually save before that happens, I go back in and and load it and I have no problems. That is until I end a match then the game crashes again.

    Is this while playing with the Skullcandy headset unplugged?

    Well, that's better at least, I guess. :)

    At the end of the game, you suddenly get visibility of all of the enemy units and they are all exploding at the same time, so that may give whatever is crashing PA ample opportunity. Which makes me wonder about the drivers again. I wonder if you could try uninstalling the NVidia drivers completely, reboot and then install a freshly downloaded copy, and reboot again.

    Sorry that this is being such a hassle for you. Usually PA is quite well-behaved...
