Venari Strigas is hands down the best song for playing games to I have, but here are some others.

    Necrodancer 1-3

    Dr. Fetus' Castle

Another thing that helps a lot is knowing the song by heart. Songs you know are a lot less likely to distract you. Songs you've played Osu! to have the added benefit of inducing a precision-click-heavy mentality.
Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke

Or just turn on an AC/DC internet radio.

ok no more speedstep plz, their melodies are all over the place it's impossible to focus with that plus they don't know the definition of "bass" (those two things seem like a common trend with all Jap-originating music)

also no more chiptune, same thing kinda goes, no bass, melody all over the place.

Anything too repetitive shuts my brain off, if there isn't a melody it destroys my focus. And I've never found that "bass" on its own held any value for listening or pumping. It's a rare bass heavy song that doesn't put me in a stupor(They do exist).

To each their own I guess.

    true dat,

I love more 'intelligent' songs, don't get me wrong, it's just that I'm a guy, which kinda decides the can or can't multitask factor in me.

I think this is why 'dumb' 'repetitive' music works better to get me in the zone, because it lets me keep my focus on the game.

Here's the sort of stuff I listen to when I play. I make no promises that it's of interest to anyone else :)

Bass used to make me physically nauseous, so I've never had positive associations with it. Now I just find it tends to be used very repetitively. If something repeats too frequently I feel like I missed something and I start mentally looking for it. Makes me panic and shut down completely. Terrible for games.

Other people sync well with repetition. Whatever lets you crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.

    hot damn!

for me it must be the extreme opposite.

I got my logitech Z906 for a damn reason. I don't get to push it as much as i'd like because if I overdo it I'll get complaints but I happen to be in a very soundproof place which I often have all to myself and at those times I let loose a bit. (like with 3x6 - protocol in dub or diplo&Nikki da B - express yourself or Marlow - Full moon)

    @Quitch 4th and 5th doable for me.

I love EDM but it's the perfect example of a music that I like that works bad for me when I'm trying to get into the zone.

you need faf + fa to view this replay.

I played this one with noisia - block control playing.

seems to me like when this song's playing anything is possible, I feel superhuman.

Well no music at least (I don't turn the sound off obviously, that'd be...odd, but if there is in-game music, I'll usually get rid of that).
Having music on in the background would just distract me (and in some games sound is very important).
I was just wondering who here does the same, or if I'm actually the only one posting here who doesn't like music while playing (can't be, right? :D).

that's exactly what I had in mind and what I've been explaining this whole thread :)

    music you likes distracts you.

yet for some reason, some sounds get you pumped. (obviously if you also like it it's a win-win but that's more rare)

Yeah, I do that too. I turn the music all the way to 10% so I can hear the explosions and the comm stomping about properly, but still get some music in the menus.
I do play the soundtrack outside of the game though, since it's pretty cool. I guess that's tatsujb's point. :)

Hm, interesting, in my case, any type of music would distract me, regardless of me liking or disliking it. For some reason music I don't like also gets stuck in my head very easily and would probably just annoy the **** out of me x)
Well, yeah, as said before, to each their own :D

All for a magical total of 69!

All of these are subject to a "test phase".

    And I reorganized the playlist.

new candidates : Dan le Sac vs. Scroopius Pip - Thou Shall Always Kill, Mike Shiver and Ashkan Fardost + Hammer and Funabashi - Arise, James Blake + Finnebassen Fin Pilly,Retrograde, Nostromo - Galaxy Pad the Magic Bounce, Paradise Decay - Vampires Revenge Blood Remix, Crystal Castles - Air War, Digitalism - Circles & Silenz & Blitz, Area of Deffect - Man Mode, Vitalic - Second Lives & see the sea (red) & see the sea (blue), Dragonnette - I Get Around (Midnight Juggenauts), Rhianna vs. Harwell - Where have you been, MSTRKRFT - The Looks, Das Racist - Who's that?
