The system designer is broken. It hardly saves the changes we do to CSG, Metal and spots. Theres a few other issues but none as bad as the planet failing to save the changes we made. The way around it is to use direct edit to detect when the changes were saved and thats really onlyfrom using the random name till the csg changes show up.
I've noticed times where I'll select the Metal Spots button, place a spot, then select the Metal Spots button again and my metal spot disappears because it's in a place that can't be placed. I'll check to find out if there's a better way to place it and know it's in a good spot. However, I'm having a hard time reproducing the CSG from not saving. Do you have some repro steps I can try?
I wouldn't know for sure but I did the entire planet then went to go play and it saved the metal but not all the csgs. Used directedit to tell if the csgs showed up and that was really only after going random name for the planet till they did. Was told to save in metal spots or something like that so they did save but it seems like its really only a chance that it saves the csgs or wipes them. All I really know is that it hardly saves changes to CSG and sometimes forgets metal spots as well. Only way to tell if all your work was going to be saved was with directedit. Gandalf and Alpha would really know more about this then me seeing as they've put up with it alot longer then me.
I'll be adding my save workarounds to the System Editor Fixes client mod soon: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/system-editor-fixes-client-mod.68518/ Look for an update on that thread.
Try this: new system and rename add a planet and edit that planet check use as starting planet (enables save system) advanced edit and ok enable csg mode add or remove some csg (handlers.planet_csgs never fires) click save system CSG changes will be lost. Workaround: disable csg mode before saving
And besides that there are a couple of more problems with the system designer saving. But those get fixed by Mikeyhs mod. So please check his stuff too. After that I had only more problem with saving CSG's and that might be explained by Mikeyhs post above. I can't get you solid repro's because it depends on the generated planet too. One thing that should be changed btw is name change when saving. If you openend up a system in system designer and give it different version name and after some editing again it'll overwrite the same file. what I have to do now is save close down system designer. Reload the map, change name, save, close down. The system that I attached to it won't save anything as an example. It'll revert itself to the standard thingy. System designer is only workable if you save it in versions or else you're gonna lose a lot of stuff.
