Vaccines are intended to protect a population, rather than individuals. They don't guarantee protection, however they protect enough that it should prevent a disease spreading. With that in mind you can see that there are circumstances where certain vaccinations could be potentially harmful to specific individuals. The key with such things is to educate yourself on the risks and make an informed choice. People are far too black and white about things imo.

I believe the biggest reason in the US is because of falsified reports linking vaccinations to autism and other similar disorders.

That's actually really awesome. They literally assembled a structured protein, shaped like a key to deliver another protein which fixes damaged or infected cells...

    I love biology.

Math is just physics except utterly meaningless.

    1+x=2 solve for x
x=1 what does this tell us?
    f*cked if I know!

Notice how everyone keeps their distance from the mathematician.

    you'd love to see it that way wouldn't you ? :p ;)

honestly I hate math because I suck at it, but I know I have to git gud, because it's my future as an informatician.

If you really want me to stick the final nail in the coffin then fine.

It's a scale of purity, not awesomeness, or betterness. 100% pure oxygen environment is purer than normal air but, I know what I'd rather be breathing for extended periods of time.

Why would you waste pure oxygen on something not dealing with explosives?

Clearly you're just not capable of appreciating awesomeness or betterness when you see it.

Well, I am thankful for all of the pure math that people did/are doing. It makes my life a lot easier. :)

Next thing you know, you'll say that fundamental (pure) research at for example CERN is useless. I mean, what's the point of having a Higgs boson. It only lives for 1.56×10−22 s anyway, so you can't really do anything with it. Assuming you don't think that that research is useless, well, theoretical physics predicted the existence of the Higgs boson in the first place and I am reasonably certain that math may have been involved.

Or quantum mechanics before 1920. I'm sure they were aiming for cell phones/computers/lasers/etc. all along and didn't start with mathematical models. Yeah, who needs math anyway, eh?

Anyway, I think math is pretty awesome and that's coming from someone that's lower than them on the above scale. :)

Noooooo! Don't you get it!? Physics is the use of math! It's one true purpose! Newton (or Leibnitz if you prefer) would have no need to invent calculus if it weren't for physics. Mathematicians just piddle about with numbers. Physicists identify how those numbers influence the universe.

Mathematics is a tool (one that needs and is constantly developed I'd add). Once you have a tool-set you then need someone to *use it for something*.

If one creates a tool, and then someone else uses said tool to create a great work, who is more important? Honestly I think your all looking at it wrong.

Without the tools, nothing new would be made, but without those with the ability and desire to use the tools there would be no need for them. Neither one is mutually exclusive or 'better' imo.
