I am so very late (sorry), and so very on-topic (even more sorry), but it has everything to do with those things you mentioned.

Everyone gets flak on the Internet, but some get it worse than others. And some get it far, far worse.

Some people do kinda make themselves stand out however.

It's usually better to be the quiet one on the internet, as the loud ones are far to easy to pick on.

That said, most of the internet is just text on a screen, and thus can be defeated by gifs.

Depeneds on where you go. Generally speaking, people get flak for being different. If you're somewhere on the internet where you're the minority you'll get flak for it.

Go most places you'll get flak for being a depressed teenager with identity issues. Go to tumblr and you'll get flak for not being a depressed teenager with identity issues.

    and this.

I'm a "kid" and the only reason I get "hate" is because of the unorthodox things I do (in games or otherwise). Other than that, most people (besides several PA peeps who 'know' me to an extent) initially believe i'm 21+ and normally tend to stick with that belief since I have no intention of letting them know truth :p
Probably the biggest reasons you're going to get hate online is because of your behavior, your mic, and because you're "different". Not because you're a "kid"
