Go desktop! Laptops or pretty meh for gaming. I say this because all my friends wanted laptops, I attempted to discourage them. They bought them anyway, and they all complain to me about laptop related issues and how they wish they went with a desktop. Less powerful gpu, small screen, heat related issues to name a few on a laptop.
Get a real computer to play and keep the laptop for whatever you do with it that causes the need for a laptop.
The intel HD are fine for PA, I had no problem with the desktop version until I wanted to start recording at the same time.
It's a pet peeve of mine to hear people say laptops are inherently worse than desktops. As no, they're not. I can get a laptop just as beefy as a desktop. The only issue is... They're worse by cost. Also what's that about small screen? You do know laptops can use monitors too, right? In fact my older laptops screen broke and so fora very long while I used a monitor. So please don't say they're literally incapable of being as good as a desktop, as they are, only they cost a very pretty penny. Though I must say, unless you plan on travelling a lot... get a desktop.
It looks like your Intel HD graphic card is nearly eating 2gigs of your main memory ..... Definitly, playing with a graphic car with non dedicated memory is crazy man, especially for a game like PA ...
You can, I'm not sure why everyone thinks you can't. Actually you can... It's just insanely more difficult to do so. XD
Laptop parts are tuned more for power efficiency than performance, typically for any given product line the desktop parts are more performant than the laptop parts (thinking more of the processor, but it typically applies to the graphics and RAM and HDD, not so much SSD). Take this to the extreme, top end desktops perform better than top end laptops, unless you use desktop parts in a laptop; in which case it's a desktop with a battery
You can't get them as beefy actually. You do know mobile cards may have the same series number but they are different right? Like a 680m gtx is not nearly as fast as a 680 gtx desktop equivalent. Also, laptop drivers are different, you can never get the latest or greatest cards on a laptop. They are often a bit behind desktop cards. You also pay more for laptops, you can't upgrade them, they have short life expectancy because of heat related issues. If a part fails you pretty much have to scrap the whole laptop unless it's ram or maybe an hard drive. It's not worth it imo for gaming mobility. They are great for work and school but not so much gaming. Unless you are going to lan parties or bringing it to a friends house every week I wouldn't recommend it.
Playing on smaller maps would help with this. All the ranked ones should work fine anyway, and those of similar size. But like others have said, if you want to game, get a desktop.
im in a boarding school which is far away from my home, until summer I might get a new laptop to replace this rubbish. ps : My laptop is like a tablet very thin and light. That might be the reason for not having enough ram.
Out of interest, the new GTX 980m is within 20% of the performance of the desktop GTX980, so the gap is diminishing. Also some of the very high end 'desktop replacement' laptops include dual gpu's and such to get them up to high end desktop performance. Also with the 'mxm' module format for gpu's, technically you can change most of the same things in a laptop as you can in a desktop (e.g. cpu, ram, hdd, gpu, wifi / bluetooth adaptor, optical drive etc). The only things your usually stuck with is the screen and the motherboard. That said I do agree with you that a decent desktop is infinitely preferable, as you'll pay a considerable premium for an 'almost as good' experience with a high end laptop.
