[REQ] T2 Mobile Umbrellas

    Doesn't make it half-baked. Just because we're not game developers doesn't mean we can't have a vision. There are plenty of mods that are games in their own right, so the distinction "game" and "mod" can be pretty blurred. Not in this case, mind you, as this is obviously a mod, but that doesn't make it "half-baked" by any stretch.

    Also, don't forget that the current orbital ground interaction was almost exactly that mod, what with the tactical missiles firing at orbital now. What say you on that? Was a mod, now vanilla, apparently the mod had a good idea. My newest mod is all about the same vanilla units, with many good ideas added. Matter of fact, Uber ninja'd 2 of my changes right out from under me even while I made a mod for them, commander eco reduction and celestial radar giving radar instead of vision. inb4grenadieramphibious

    I never said you didn't have any good ideas, lots of people in these forums have good ideas too, but you just happen to be modders who can actually implement and try out some of their ideas. This doesn't mean we are all going to like your implementation of these ideas as a whole. I prefer to play vanilla. You seem to be very upset that I don't like your mod.

    Just to specify, I am NOT an author of orbital overhaul. I did do similar tac missile stuff in some other mods.

    Of course, cause that problem is solved!

    Regarding the mods discussion: I did enjoy OrbitalWarfareOverhaul, but it´s hard change to vanilla gameplay! I prefer Uber implementing that stuff over some longer time so folks can get used to the mods. Right now most folks online are distracted if you setup a game with OWO...

    Nope it was just quickly pointed out that the bluehawk was basically already doing what the OP asked for and the we moved on to discussing the rest of the orbital balance.

    On which note I need to play the orbital warfare overhaul again. I played one game, and lost because we couldn't secure out planet fast enough and get into orbit properly before we got invaded. I'd like to get a chance to see what the new units actually do. It makes a lot of changes, as a first impression maybe too many.

    Still would be cool to see an Umbrella-style T2 anti-orbital Vehicle in my opinion. What do people think about that?

    Uber will never implement orbital in the way you may want, as they dont like ships and such, not to mention orbital hasn't really been touched (adding new combat units) since its original implementation. Other than the anchor I thiiiiink?

    The devs don't really seem to have a vision with their ideas, most mods are created faster because they have direction. As far as uber has told us before they kind of throw stuff and see if it sticks. (No insult to uber), heck they told us they make balance changes by just making something op, then up, and try to find a medium before just... trying to find the right area. (Though this may be out of date now that someone else is working on balance)

    These modders put so much time and effort into their mods, heck they don't even get paid. We work for hours- days even, modelling things, forming ideas on units and trying to find roles and reasons for their existence.

    Why is their work considered half-baked to you? generally half-baked means.. A quick implementation, just to throw it in. I'd argue much of vanilla balance is or at least was half-baked.

    It's not completely out of the realm of possibility. The anchors and SSX have recently seen some love and had a bit of a rebalancing as well as the aesthetic improvements. They've also recently added subs and an interplanetary t2 fighter, so new units aren't out of the question (both of those were also mentioned repeatedly on the forum beforehand). I really wouldn't be suprised to see some form of anti-orbital-structure fighter introduced to complement the avenger and allow more even confrontations against orbital factories and anchors.

    @eroticburrito A dedicated anti orbital vehicle could be interesting. Added to the t2 vehicle factory so that people can choose between bot and vehicle t2. Maybe added to the unit cannon as well to allow for holding a new colony/beachhead against anchor creep.

    Edit: colony, without the 'y' the whole thing becomes and entirely different proposition.
