When/If Atmospherics get implemented, a 'Atmospheric Density' slider would be cool.

I recently created a couple of planets with a lot of tall mesas.

I also recently played this map in Total Annihilation:

    That white stuff is cloud.

When Gas Giants were first pitched, Uber initially thought about putting land platforms on them but after chatting with the community decided against as this seemed unrealistic.

However when and if Atmospherics for normal planets do get introduced, a slider to control Atmospheric Height and Density in the way we control Water and Terrain would be awesome. We could create Venus-like rocky planets, where (at the extreme end of soupiness), the surface of the planet is inaccessible, leaving us to fight on mountaintops.

I know there are lots of biomes in TA, but this one seems to be on a branch of what eventually needs doing in Planetary Annihilation with regards to Atmospherics. It'd require more control in the editor, rather than building an entirely new Crystal or City biome, for instance.

    So yeah! Whatcha think?

Awesome idea. Atmospherics would be cool but I'd also just like to see more terrain heights in general.

You could achieve a similar effect by re-skinning lava to look like clouds (that's actually exactly what TA did).

Well, no, because the lava PA has is just a ground texture - we'd need an overhauled lava first.

Also burrito, great job on that planet, those are real gameplay-influencing terrain features, not the tiny little rocks & small mountains that the random generator produces.

Except the clouds were unpathable, while the lava was merely hazardous.

I really think this is what PA maps need to make maps interesting. Those mountains look amazing!

I hope we see some new biomes that move away from the traditional ones we see on earth. I loved the alien worlds in TA like the acid pools and gas pods, alien aggressive life forms. The alien biomes are something I really enjoyed in grey goo.

    And they were alien, how?

Well "alien" just means "not of earth", so any kind of crystal, metal, acid, mars and to a lesser extent cloud planets in TA can all be considered alien.

I did mean grey goo specifically, being set on a tropical planet in all.

Just look at some of the screen shots, alien flora and fauna everywhere. The game doesn't take place on earth. Without spoiling too much I'll just say the game is different in that Humans are at the top of the food chain..

Still fine-tuning and prettifying it, when it's done I'll upload to my thread in the Mapping forum (see ma sig).

Well it's still a jungle, even if it's not earth.

So really it's not that different at all.
