[POLL] Global Chat System

Not sure how many work hours or minutes it would take to integrate this into PA, but I think it would really be an awesome feature for a game that feels so disconnected imo.

Feels like I step into a cave when I open PA Kappa.

So yeah, lets see what the community wants fo reeeeel here!

Make it opt in. Why not have a global chat like the one in SMNC. So people aren't barraged by a moving wall of text. If a player wishes to chat they can and if they don't they won't.

there's already a web browser mod for PA, and there's already a community IRC channel

Because not everyone has PA stats and that button is not a good way to talk with others, compared to something that everyone will have.

I do not have pastats either, but there is still a community IRC channel and a web browser mod. I do not care for an official global chat, it'll become a cesspool quickly and Uber probably doesn't want to have to moderate it. Private channels & convos would still be useful because they'd be privately moderated.

Have any of you actually used a global chat? I will use starcraft 2 and world of tanks as an example. In the starcraft general chat, I rarely encountered anything friendly, in fact, the only time I ever opened it I was greeted with a ranting pedophile. In world of tanks, it's mostly just rage and ranting about the game, sometimes there is someone who asks a legitimate question, but most of the time not so much. Legitimate questions are for the forums, private conversations are for the IRC channel, but we don't really need a shitstorm general chat, because the maturity in there is NOT going to reflect the forums.

GPGnet's chat is the reason why I am here and why FAF exists.

So yes, a fair few over the years, and I want one for PA, because it would act as one centralised point for us all to congregate - it would be nice to be able to reach out to people through other means than Silly Lobby Names, Forum stalking or hunting them through the myriad of different VoiP-chat options

Oh very many, the original thread had a couple posts by @neutrino ,it was quite the debate. Got a little heated, just check his posting history and you should see it.

neutrino doesn't want a global chat and for a good reason

i have had a number of various chatchannels and learned to ignore those i don´t care about ...
it´s simple don´t shove a chatwindow into peoples faces when you don´t want to chat ...
block people that bother you so you stop seeing their BS posted ...
or just don´t open the chat entirely ... done ... what does it bother you when you never use the mainchat ...

So just don't have a global chat, private channels can be privately moderated.
