I guess that we won´t, just like we didn´t see point-to-point rockets as well (the commander was flying in one of these in the trailer) there is a good reason for it: We do now have the more logical option!

Not exactly, the spread would have to be high enough and maybe limit it to only T1 unit, while T2 need to use astraeus and/or teleporter, additionally T2 would need to be cheaper and less powerful (perhaps more specialised). That way it wouldn't take ridiculously cheap and hard to destroy teleporter that must be build form orbit to work around the problem.

More logical? Needles flybys of the sun and planets when there's a lot quicker direct (in a matter of speaking) path? When it comes to military operation, a less efficient (not that the current way is efficient), faster, direct way makes much more sense.

spread or not the problem is the constant rate at which units land on the destination ... that is also why the current version is limited like that ... simply imagine the contant stream of bots comming from the factories entering the cannon and be launched make 2 or 3 of them and it may not take long to overun your opponent similar to a teleporterinvasion .. the spread would be rather secondary ...

also now with ssx becomming more buildable there seems to be a better synergy to be possible between nukes unitcannons and gates .. so you wouldn't be entirely dependant on teleporters ...

Honestly there needs to be a way to invade planet in mass, otherwise you are left with the problem where planets are impregnable. But a 2 way teleporter really that needs to be build on both ends really doesn't make sense to be used as the initial beachead. My idea (or rather that by the initial RCBM team, that I found awesome and interesting) was that you use the unit cannon to launch groups of units at the enemy planet, but (the part is didn't tell you about) you must initially build it on an asteroid or a moon and then move that body into low orbit of a target planet. Additionally the unit cannon pods should maybe be targetable by AA and and/or anti orbital if too easy/powerful invasions really becomes an issue. That way there is a warning that something is coming your way and as soon as something is in your orbit, it would need to have pretty stern defences to prevent any counter invasion or nukes. Now wouldn't that be more interesting than what we have now?

mass invasion to me would be multtiunittransporters and orbital carriers with the downside of requiring a fair ammount of prep ... this requires orbital traveltime to be more consistent as well ..

That is if course another option. Honestly having both would be the best but the one I describe would be fame more epic in sheer scale and overkill which PA basically is all about. I still hope that one day we can at least mod it that way. That's why I'm keeping a close eye on PA

Once @sorian told me that you could mod it so that it fires only from host planet to satellite (moon) and visa-versa.

which to me is very limiting the usefullness of it ...

I know that part You change inter_system into inter_gravwell and it works. I was talking about making it function by loading units in it rather than having it build them.

That's because you can't move planets onto a different orbit yet and what I've heard from Jables we won't be able to do that for quite some time.

YOU WOT? @jables - Elaborate this. Because it looks like you will NOT need to rework the entire system, just add the UI. Still if it's low prio it wont happen any time soom. sadface :(

hasn´t it been said that you can cancel halleys before the critical point of an impact? or has that been removed?

Yeah its been in for a long long while, it was taken out for a bit though, then as far as I know was added back again. Go give it a try.

You can indirectly change orbits. Just order a planet to smash another, then cancel it at the last minute.

Or, even more indirectly, if you are halleying a planet and the moon you're launching has it's halleys nuked (like right before it crashes into the other planet) the moon will be in orbit of the targeted planet.
