    On the surface it seems like the subs won't do much for gameplay, but I'm sure they'll add a raft of new combat options.

    That's because they only add to underwater gameplay :)

    Ohh, if you haven't done so, play a game, either skirmish or against a player (huh, I have it, I'd play it for a trip down nostalgia lane) on the map "Shore to shore" in TA.

    I used to love having one or two subs there as the enemy would build an army, send it into the water, and have subs off of the coast, smashing tanks with torpedos.

    Ring atoll was my favourite map because you could use torpedo bombers against an oncoming army. That sort of strategy you so rarely get to do anywhere else.

    Can we also get carriers? Maybe instead of naval buildings being floating versions of land buildings, they could all (except for the resource producing/storing ones perhaps) be large slow moving boats built by engineers? Instead of aquatic bases, you get fleets.

    The DEPTH of this updates is remarkable. I must say I was worried that the next release would be SUB-par and only introduce SHALLOW features.
