I find when I watch a cast that I want to take control of the camera.. much like we can do when using the chronocam. To me the ultimate cast would be on top of a chronocam viewing ability. This taken to the next level (dare we call it Uber casting? :) ) we would have the ability to hear the teams/players as well. A checkbox for what you wanted to listen to, one for the casters, and one for each player/team, all tied into the chronocam. Youtube/Twitch just isn't built with this coolness in mind. I think this would need to be something that Uber and the community would need to build together. I'm too new to modding to know if this would even currently be possible with a mod, but if not perhaps Uber can give modders the access to be able to make this possible. To me a picture in a picture view of the cast with me being able to take control of the view I am seeing, or to choose to just watch what the casters are showing. Would the servers be able to handle the viewing load?

I not know of any other game having this capability. I think Uber/PA would really be breaking totally new ground here, and making a name for itself in a new way, being the first to offer such viewing nirvana to it's players.

I just can't imagine the future of casting without this.. so why wait for someone else to do it and get the credit?

    Thoughts?

the first thought I have is that when playing the game the players would need to be logged into a chat system built into the game, or something the could be accessed via api or something.

And a way to activate the camera on the casters' laptops so as to be able to see Zaphod and Marshall in their underwear and all the scones being eaten.

Well, this would basically be a replay, combined with a video feed for the casters so from a technical point of view this would be quite doable, though how hard it would be to integrate these things in PA I don't know.

I do like the idea though.

I really should have made this a poll, so people/Uber could get a real feel for what people think of this idea.

Why not try it out and see how you like it. Load up the game and play the cast in the background at the same time? Most casted games use pastats so there shouldn't be an issue.

I will try this. All that is then missing is the ability to listen to the teams talking.

This sounds REALLY cool! I just think/ know of any way that uber could really implement that. ( I get what your saying about physically watching on a in-game-level) it just may overload the server with 153 people watching one matchXD

Uber is there any limit on the number of people that can watch a match replay?

this doesn't respect privacy. unless every player signs a discharge saying they accept being recorded this poses legal issue.
see it's funny, cause when I say exactly that I get bashed...

I would think the legal issue could be handled with a simple notice a user "accepts" before the match.

I think this issue kinda exists anyway with a video stream, but an "accept" button should indeed take care of this issue, or even a privacy settings panel in which you can chose what you share with viewers. For example allow a player to show their webcam or not.

A basic form of this already exists in League of Legends, I haven't played this game much, but I do remember being able to watch games ingame, had a 5 min delay or something. This idea would be stepping it up a notch though.

Joke or not, I don't think it is a bad idea for big tournaments and such. When players stream they usually show their webcam, so this system would essentially allow you to switch between the streams of each player. I don't see why you wouldn't have it, so long as players very explicitly agree to show their webcam. Also when you watch say a televised match of StarCraft you can see the players. This is providing similar possibilities, but for anyone anywhere in the world.

I can easily see it being interesting to have the following to watch a big tournament:
    • spectator mode
    • observer (commentator) camera
    • player camera
    • something like LoL's auto-camera for non casted games (tries to automatically show cool stuff in the game)
    • audio commentary
    • each team's voice chat
    • caster webcams
    • player webcams
Of course, all parties involved would have to accept what they provide. The default for standard games would only allow spectator mode, but for a big event I can see all of the above being useful.

This can and should be done with external tools. There is no way a built-in function in PA would be able to beat the quality and control afforded by something purpose-built for voice like teamspeak or for purpose-built audio handler programs.

In much the same way that OBS or similar recording / streaming software allows far more control than the built-in Twitch functionality in PA, you really want software outside of the game that handles this sort of thing.

Example - the game crashes. With external tools you still have the ability to keep the stream going and explain to viewers what happened. With built-in functionality, the stream just stops.

Awesome ! And abselutely possible! :)
Take a look at the League of Legends in Game viewer(Spectator Mode), just add the option to view a caster in-game and done.
