The way you describe it makes it perfectly clear to me why most Realm players are competitively inactive. Cult has far worse players, but they are all competitively active. The atmosphere in Realm is simply not conducive to allowing less experienced players to play. They SAY they will allow them, but what Gold player has the audacity to step forward and say "custard I am taking your spot in this tournament game"? It would even be indecent and rude to say that! Custard just doesn't get it because he is looking at it from the wrong viewpoint (the viewpoint at the top). He can't empathize with how other people view him and his Uber-level friends.

Me and my buddy made a clan. It's got 3-4 people in it now, and I just randomly request people to join the game. Idk if anyone wants to join, I guess anyone on the forum is a good addition

Here's what would happen if I joined the Realm and took up custard's offer to play in every tournament game.

Within 2 games all the Uber RLM players would HATE me for causing them to lose games. And then they'd have to throw me out because I would continue joining all tournaments because that's what I love to do and to prove custard wrong.

It's just that the other inexperienced players do not have the IDGAF attitude that I have, and are very mindful of social norms and conventions, hence they sit on the sidelines and miss out on some of the most fun PA has to offer. And hence me calling them sheep and making this thread.

The only ones who benefit from all this are the Clan leaders, with their megalomania.

@icycalm Honestly, The Realm has always been pretty big, and when I first got into PA and the Realm, I played constantly, but never for more than fun. As far as I can tell, the PA hype has calmed a bit and the clan is spreading out to more games rather than just a few. There are regulars in there who don't play to win, but only to have fun. Which is probably part of the issue. I don't find PA fun unless I'm derping around with some useless unit. If you really want a good taste of the PA atmosphere, pop in every now and then and taste it yourself. Though with Universities starting it might be a bit empty

Yeah the PA side of the Realm has got a bit quiet recently, Zykey, Mered and Orb have disappeared or are playing other games. We're hoping to get a few new people in from the recent surge of sales.

    Because that would be silly!

... but we'd probably still win

I don't understand any of this. Why would anyone play a videogame other than fun? You are implying that tournaments aren't fun, that winning isn't fun, that playing the game a lot is not fun, whereas in fact these are precisely THE MOST FUN things to do in the game (which is proven by the fact that the people who play this way play more than the people who do not play this way. And why else would they be playing more if they are not having more fun than those who SAY that they are playing "for fun" but play the game LESS than those who play "for sadness" I guess?)

    My points still stand.

It's all Orb's fault! He's threatening to play games with us! It's terrifying! (I don't know about Zykey though. He's MIA entirely.)

Also, the fun is entirely subjective. I hate competitive PA (probably because I suck lol), yet Gandalf seems to love it.

(I skip read part of your post and didn't address this: I'd be blown away if Custard didn't give somebody the opportunity to play a match if they were interested, especially for experience. I doubt it'd be considered rude, probably a good thing actually, to have more people interested.)

    As for this:

It is useful in highlighting the toxic mentality that exists among "competitive" players. He thinks I am talking about winning, because that's the only thing on his mind. And that's the only thing on the minds of the dozens of players he keeps on the bench, which is why they joined his clan and do not participate in tournaments. But winning is precisely what's NOT on my mind, otherwise you would have had one clan less in Clan Wars, since my clan is obviously not going to win anything.

Do you see now why I say that his attitude is toxic?

In short, the players that custard and his buddies KEEP ON THE BENCH, are precisely the natural opponents in this game of my friends and mine. And we would prefer it if we could play against them, not because we might be able to WIN a match against them now and then, but because those matches would be longer, and with more back and forth in them, and more exciting.

Now how hard can that be to understand, and to figure out something to do about it?

Why don't you create clans and tournaments for different level of skill?

hahaha nerofearstar did exactly that when we played against you in the clan wars. Battlebear, Headcrab and Starlit stepped down to allow him, buckfast and snapky to play. It was a fun game.

Fair enough. It's a nice gesture, but not enough. Do that with 4 players, and then we are talking.

Even better, have those 4 players join my clan to fight against you, or even better, to make their own.

As a member of a 'Big clan' I can safely say, you must not have a good impression on people to not get chosen or so what? Supporting your friends and comrades is just as good as partaking!!! Selfish much?

Tactics are tactics, its something YOU! Do not think about, many minds are many idea's, I keep getting new idea's from either games I play or people I play with. I bring people in by giving them my own time and giving them 1v1 tutorial's, tips and tricks and people WILL develop from there in their own way. So again another point put down. Anything else you want me to rip into? Or you just gonna sit there and whine because you get thrashed.

What ever happened to nice posts or CONSTRUCTIVE criticism?
Poor example for the community that has their own free will and trying to sway people's initial idea's because they're not your own.

Why do you need competition? Clan wars like events could very much be between the different teams within the clan that would naturally form as some players play much more with some other players than with other players (sentence structure OP)

In short, the bench-sitters get a bigger rush out of merely BELONGING to the clan that wins, rather than actually PLAYING the game, and perhaps losing.

Another psychological lesson brought to you by your friendly neighborhood icycalm.

Last time you said people care solely about their own opinions, now you basically just switched that around.. ;)

Zombiefan564, one of the very bbest players for a little bit (a very very modest one at that) decided to form NOVA for example after IG fell apart... or well I guess I did push him to do so, and he did originally, but that was mainly because at the time the Realm was basically the only clan rhat existed other than another two maybe in completely didifferent time zones.

To be fair, a lot of people support football teams in the same way.
