Hello everyone! I've got a problem where the game stutters significantly while in the intro movie and main menu. In-match the game runs perfectly, so I don't think this is a hardware problem. I've tried all of the following and nothing helps: Got the latest NVIDIA driver installed. Tried turning on Threaded optimization. Tried turning off the Steam overlay for PA. Tried playing in the stand-alone version of the game, outside of Steam. Nothing seems to work. As said, in-match it works as it should, plays very smoothly and menus during that time work fine too. It's just the intro movie and main menu that don't seem to work. Any ideas what this could be caused by?
I haven't gotten into the UI debugging side, but a mod may reduce the non-movie issues: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/rel-lightweight-menus.62586/
Hi I had performance issues in OS windows in the menu because it was using my intel graphic card instead of the nvidea. I set NVIDIA as the default graphics for every application and now it runs smoothly. Maybe is the same problem in linux
I'm not playing PA on a laptop with Optimus, so there's no internal card to speak of, only a dedicated one. I'm currently not running this on Linux. I might try that later this week, however I regard that as an unrelated issue (even though this problem might resurface in Linux too).
Could you post a DxDiag.txt? Those things contain helpful info about your hardware and such. (Press <Win>+R, type "dxdiag" and press "Save All Information...". Upload the resulting file here) By the way, what's your CPU usage while in the main menu? Is it maxing out one of your CPU cores?
DxDiag.txt attached to this post. When checking, indeed one core is always maxed out when in the main menu.
Nice machine there Not sure why you would get such a high cpu utilisation in the menu, especially with that CPU...? It could be some random software causing problems (PA is very sensitive to certain types of background software). As a little experiment you could try performing a 'clean boot' and running PA and see if that changes the behaviour. Instructions for how to perform a clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-gb If that works then we know it's some other software on the machine that is causing the trouble.
For me it's really looks like there is something seriously wrong with Coherent on Nvidia 9XX as many players reported same behaviour. Personally I would suggest to run it with "--software-ui" launch option just for test.
So first of all, I don't know how to start PA in Safe mode, so I didn't try that. I did however try to run PA with --software-ui and it significantly improved the responsiveness. Still not perfect (or maybe it should be like this?) but much better. However, I'm guessing that this shouldn't be used normally, so I'd prefer finding an alternative solution.
This may mean Coherent or Nvidia GTX 9XX drivers actually have problem. So let's try to wait if some other GTX 9XX owner can try it and check if there is problem or not. Lets' sa
Pretty weird. Think I removed this part. Actually I just want to note that software UI usually don't decrease performance anyway, but only add problem with black screen after game (may be solved by window resize or Alt+Enter).
I just tried rolling back my driver from 347.09 to 344.16. No improvement. This means that for me the problem is present with both of those driver versions. What version are you using?
Is there some other information i could provide to debug this? EDIT: BTW, Planetary Annihilation refuses to start in Safe Mode, so that's not a route I can test.
