Ok im lost, so i got a few questions to ask! Question 1, Both of these amazing people made TA and the first addon , yes? Why aren't they collaborating on this title? is there a feud or difference of opinion or is it a "this was my idea first kind of thing"?? Question 2, Is there any chance of Uber buying the TA rights off of Chris Taylor if he has exclusive rights to the TA title and related materials? Question 3, Is this meant to be a TA sequel or just being based off TA to start with and will eventually change to be different so it doesn't infringe on copyrights that maybe owned by Chris Taylor?
These questions already have answers. ;P 1. Look at how Uber was founded. It was a separate company that has existed for a few years before PA. 2. No, look at who bought the TA IP, and who was runner-up in buying that IP (go Google it). 3. It's not a sequel, and it's not going to change - it doesn't infringe right now.
Thank-you BulletMagnet, i have been searching for these answers but haven't come across them yet. When i google the sale of Atari's IP's all i find is how much they were selling TA's IP for ($250k US). and that it was brought by wargaming. no other info about who was second or third in bids. Any other info's i have found all say stuff about Stardock being runners up for some of atarti's IP's and getting Star Control's IP.
Well, we learned that Uber was the runner up bidder for TA. Uber wanted it, but Wargaming wanted it more.
Me personally, i don't want the game to change or be altered to be different, i was just saying that if does come close to infringing will much be changed if any? And in my opinion, Without Mavor's genius programming making TA happen (im sure that his amazing programming skills made it possible like they are making this epic title possible) it's most probably likely that TA wouldn't be the awesome quality game it is now!
Thank-you again Bullet, its good to get straight answers about stuff i obviously missed being a late backer without being FLAMED for not doing enough back researching
I don't see this as a TAYLORvsMAVOR thing. Uber is making PA, a nanolathe commander based game, mostly unique in gameplay given the orbital panetary thing and lack of usage of strategies from previous games like shields and junk. At this point, the use of the TA IP would not have helped them as much as it cost, the maximum amount of PA came out in release and post-release updates and it is strong on it's own feet. Taylor... so far he has the IP for TA. Who knows if he plans to make a new game, a sequel, an identical remake remastered re-release of TA, or perhaps he just has some idea to use the IP itself without making a game because companies have used IPs just for side profiteering before.
A few things I can add to this. Mavor actually speaks very highly of Chris Taylor, and Chris isn't against Uber or PA from what I've read. He commented that he thought the goal Uber set out for compared to the funding they raised was 'optimistic', and to an extent he was correct (though Uber have imo managed to keep it together and pull it off regardless so Kudos to them). I think many people viewed it as a 'vs' type thing, however I think that's not really the case. If CT / Wargaming decide to make a new TA based game I'd be very happy, and I'm sure they'd be happy about PA's existence as it has kept the flame alive for this little niche of RTS gaming nicely. They wouldn't be direct competitors as games though as far as I can tell.
