I am experiencing strange issues with PA on my laptop that make the game all but unplayable. First let me say this: I have an Nvidia 980m (currently the single fastest LAPTOP GPU that Nvidia manufactures on the market) in my laptop and my graphics drivers are updated to the latest version. I have 24 GB of RAM, so there's no bottleneck there. My directx is also updated. My copy of PA is the latest as well. I've checked everything and my system is entirely running the latest of everything. My brother's laptop which is utter crap compared to mine runs the game without any issues, and he didn't update a thing either... Oh and he is running Windows 7 and I am running 8.1. I hope that's not an issue... In any case, here is the problem: While I get perfect 60 fps in-game (when moving the camera or navigating menus or anything client-side), it seems there's some sort of weird server-side lag or something because all in-game actions like bot movement and planet orbiting occur at about 1 frame every 2 or 3 seconds. It difficult to explain, but my commander bot doesn't move smoothly, walking across the surface. Rather, I click where I want it to go and it sort of "jumps" towards that place every 2 or 3 seconds. Anything rendered in the game occurred with this same sort of lag. Planets move through their orbits in little "jumps" instead of moving smoothly. All this makes my game basically unplayable. I searched the internet and couldn't find any answers either. Don't ask me to upload crash logs or anything because there aaren'tany crashed. The game opens and runs perfectly. But as soon as I start a game, the extreme lack of smooth movement makes it pretty much impossible to enjoy playing. If anyone else has had this issue or has any ideas I would appreciate it a LOT. This game looks like a blast, and I really want to play it without issues. I just can't figure out what my brother's computer has going for it that my computer is lacking. I'd rather not spend time uploading spec sheets and stuff, but if that's absolutely necessary, I will.
I'd try to look for something software-wise that your computer has that your brothers has not. Something that does something with networking. Some unusual vpn software or similar things.
I disabled any processes and apps that could interfere over wifi with my game. Ex: My Virus Blocker (Nothing sketchy, just AVG), iTunes connection service, Bonjour, and even my schools special wifi connection vpn checker thing (for validating our student wifi connection accounts or whatever). Even with all these things disabled the game still ran no differently. I'm fairly confident there's no problem when it comes to other application interfering with the connection. It's also worth noting that we have a good wifi connection at our house, averaging a steady 10 to 15 mbps at all times. I'm so lost as to what could be causing this issue!! I hope someone has a good idea because I have none.
There are a few applications that can make the game Sutter badly. Also for multiplayer or online network lag can cause the issues you describe. Let's try and establish which it is. I suggest starting pa with your WiFi off. You won't be able to sign in, but you can try single player in offline mode. Fire up a vs ai game and see how it plays as that will run the server on your laptop eliminating WiFi and network issues from the equation. If the game runs the same then it's a non network related problem...
not necessarily, playing like that still creates a network connection via localhost. It's certainly a good start to test, but it's not impossible to for something to interfere with that as well.
Ok well the game has the same issue when I disable my laptop's WIFI. What should I check next, guys? (Thanks for your help btw )
There is a list of incompatible software including some Bluetooth drivers, video overlay software and such. @SXX or @DeathByDenim can probably help more with that...
You mean the list that SXX compiled. It's here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/558751813508748383/
