It ought to change every match.
I like feeling hopelessly unfamiliar with the map when I start a match, it means I have to think during course of it.

heaven forbid anyone be forced to think while playing a strategy game :^)

One of the reasons why I hardly ever play FA is that there aren't any rng maps. Those wouldn't really work in FA though. Can anyone comment on the possibility of a rng map generator for FA?

well, could you teach me how to play all the maps then? :) I mean that sincerely, because i honestly don't think i'm familiar with any of them yet. I have one map specific strategy, and it's still pretty rough.

I have full confidence that you'll be able to do it on your own.

I'm not lying or Bsing honest to god.

I have only one map specific strategy (orbital rush), and havn't even begun to understand how to unpack the other maps. So if you can help me understand them deeply, I'll credit you in any guides I decide to write.

It doesn't escape me that as an ancillary benefit, you get to show me how i'm wrong in regards to rng maps vs set piece maps. I think it's simple enough. But my primary motive is if you feel familiar with the maps already as you say, then tell me why and how so i can feel familiar with them too. I'm not trying to trap you or be unreasonable o.0

When did I claim to be familiar with all the maps? I said the metric of skill is the ability of one to get acquainted with the map during the course of the game. Which means I'm more acquainted with the ones I've played on - and since I've (so far) managed to only play different maps in multiplayer, my strategic improvisation has gotten a bit better. There's a single build order that I use in the beginning for everything except all-water maps, and I'll start to formulate my strategy sometime after I scout the enemy. My build order is so far solid, the adapting after said order is complete needs a bit of work.

    You said
You also said you don't like the set piece maps, which only means you've already figured out the ladder pool and are bored with it.

Yes, I said I like feeling hopelessly unfamiliar with the maps I play, which generally means I don't play single-planet to small systems more than once. I'd get bored with the ladder pool if I played those maps more than I already have, so I just avoid them and play custom games.

Well I'm not super experienced with most of the maps yet but I'm more than happy to bounce some ideas around with the new naval map. Me and Jonasmod had a couple rounds and learned quite a bit.

I have a build for water maps, I haven't played on many of them though.
