So once again i came back to PA to see how things were, fire up my first, new, galatic war in 1-2 months.

Playing through the game, i have local server set to ON, the game then stops, and i am told i got disconnected and back to the galactic war map.....

I thought local servers were supposed to solve this issue?

If not, then what am i experiencing now, some new bug?

Every time i try to give this game a new start and get to like it, stupid things like this seem to occur to me which remind me again why i stopped playing....

It's might be a game bug or just conflict between server and software on your PC.
Best thing to start with it's upload your current DxDiag (if on Windows) or provide other system information.

AFAIK you see a disconnect when the local server crashes.
This is due to the nature of how PA is build. When playing a local game the game starts another process (called the server), and connects to it through a local connection. But when this server crashes (due to something like a software bug) the game loses it's connection, and that is what you see.

So what you see is not a connection issue, it is more probably a software bug within the server. A "normal" game (without a separate server) would just crash completely.

K, thanks for the explanation crizmess makes sense.

Are there any "rock solid" configs to run a server on, thinking could i run a server in a VM to make it more stable in some way vs on my laptop under Windows 8.1 ? Try an isolate anything affecting the server process.

I can spend hours playing this game, but the small things like this drive me nuts when you have put in 20-30 mins into a game and BAM gone.

SXX, is there any known lists of software that could be conflicting with PA?. I did play another game last night and it ran fine shortly after making the post, one would think if software was conflicting it would occur every time. I know software, unluckily for us, is not that consistent though.

Also be aware there are a few bugs that can cause crashes of the server. You may have stumbled upon a new bug if the game crashes at a specific point... If you can find a reproducible set of steps that leads to a crash then add it to the bug tracker and uber will undoubtedly fix it.
